Ugreen HiTune TWS Earbuds Review

Introduction

Ugreen HiTune TWS Earbuds Review_1

Earlier this year, I reviewed Ugreen’s first-ever TWS earbuds — the CM338. It was surprisingly a great product with some flaws here and there, but it was expected since that was the company’s first TWS earbuds. This time around, we got a new one, which now comes with a few enhancements. Without further ado, this is the Ugreen HiTune TWS Earbuds review!

Special thanks to UGREEN for sending us the review unit!

Unboxing

The package design is quite similar to the CM338, but this time around, the box only contains the earbuds in the charging crate, USB-C cable, user guide, and extra ear tips.

Design

The charging crate has a different design, which is now wider and comes in matte finishing. Personally, I like the matte finishing a lot, fewer smudges! There are three LED indicators at the front of the case, which will illuminate when charging:

  • 100%: 3 indicators illuminate
  • 66%: 2 indicators illuminate
  • 33%: 1 indicator illuminate
  • Low battery signs: Left indicator keeps flashing when the battery is low

Opening up the charging crate, you’ll see the earbuds present in a much more elegant way, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Buds+. I’m actually quite surprised to see that the lid cover has sponges to protect the earbuds, some little details not many people will notice.

Behind the charging crate, there’s a USB-C charging port! Yes, you get USB-C charging port for this product, something that I wish to see on the CM338!

The earbuds now have a slightly more stylish design, perhaps inspired by Jabra and Bose? There’s an LED indicator on each side of the earbuds, and both still have a touch panel.

User Experience

The user experience is actually quite similar to the CM338, you can control the earbuds with the touch panel, but they are a little bit different now:

  • Music playback
    • Single Tap: Play/Pause
    • Double Tap: Next Track
    • Triple Tap: Previous Track
  • Making Calls
    • Single Tap: Answer/End a Call
    • Long-Press for 2 Seconds: Reject a Call
  • Using Voice Assistant: Long-Press for 2 Seconds to Activate

It’s good to see that the company has changed to easier control functions. I do miss the different controls on left and right earbuds, though. The earbuds have a smaller touch panel compared to the CM338, sometimes I might miss out, guess it was something to sacrifice when you want to have a better looking.

Audio Quality

Here comes the improvement that matters, the earbuds come with Qualcomm aptX audio technology, which compresses and then decompresses audio as it travels from a source device like a phone, to a receiving device like a wireless speaker, in a way that it can be transmitted over Bluetooth without damaging the quality. This ensures that you get the very most from your audio.

The audio quality has improved, I find that most problems I’m having with the CM338 are now gone. The earbuds have great bass and mids, the highs are still okay, better than the CM338. Average consumers will be satisfied with how the earbuds sound.

Battery Life

Ugreen claims that the earbuds have 9 hours of battery life on a single charge and 27 hours with the charging case. Based on my usage, I was able to get around 7 hours of battery life at a comfortable volume on a single charge. During my review period (2 weeks), I actually didn’t charge the case before, so you can expect to have good battery life. Obviously, I did not use the earbuds every day, you might need to recharge the case after 3-5 days if you are a casual user.

Final Words

Ugreen HiTune TWS Earbuds Review_12

Retailing at just RM142.99, the HiTune TWS earbuds are slightly more expensive than the CM338, but you get a better experience when you pay more, matte finishing, USB-C port, and better audio quality! These are still the TWS earbuds I can easily recommend without breaking the bank!
