Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Review

We recently had our first look at the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, the company’s latest FE series smartphone and the latest addition to the Galaxy AI ecosystem. For the past couple of weeks, I have been using the phone as my daily driver. Without further ado, here’s the full review.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Specs

Design

The Galaxy S24 FE looks pretty much like its predecessor, but it now sports a larger 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Vision Booster. The bezels around the screen are also noticeably thicker than the S24 series.

The phone has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. It also has an aluminum frame, Samsung didn’t mention it is an armor aluminum frame, so I believe that’s not the case. Samsung has refined the frame with a flatter profile and a more premium feel. The front and rear glasses are still Corning Gorilla Glass Victus though.

Display

The Galaxy S24 FE sports a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Vision Booster. The display can run at either 120Hz or 60Hz, unlike the S24 series which has an LTPO panel that can run from 1Hz to 120Hz.  It still has the best-in-class display with vivid colors and great outdoor visibility.

Performance

The phone is powered by the new Exynos 2400e processor with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. To keep it simple, Exynos 2400e has a lower clock speed compared to the S24’s Exynos 2400 processor. The chipset provides solid performance for most tasks including gaming and multitasking, but do note that it is not as capable as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor found in the S24 Ultra.

Software

The Galaxy S24 FE runs on One UI 6.1 on top of Android 14 and it gets full-fledged Galaxy AI features — from Circle to Search with Google to Interpreter and Live Translate, you get the same advanced AI experience as the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z series. Samsung also confirms that the phone will get 7 generations of OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates.

Camera

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy S24 FE packs a triple-camera setup on the back — 50MP main + 8MP 3x telephoto + 12MP 123° ultra-wide lens. It also has a 10MP selfie camera.

Image quality on the device is solid overall! Daylight photos come out excellent, showcasing a wide dynamic range and vibrant colors. Low-light shots from the main camera maintain great quality, with balanced exposures and impressive detail. The ultra-wide camera, however, falls a bit short in low light, producing images with somewhat washed-out colors. The 3x telephoto lens performs acceptably as well — not the best, but a handy option to have for added versatility. Overall, the camera hardware is the same as last year, but this time it has more processing power and the ProVisual engine at its back.

Battery Life

The Galaxy S24 FE packs a larger 4,700mAh battery compared to its predecessor (4,500mAh). It still comes with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. In terms of battery life, I was able to get 2 days of battery life with around 7 hours of screen-on-time easily. Charging the phone from 15% to full took me around an hour.

Final Words

Available in four color options — Blue, Graphite, Gray, and Mint, the Galaxy S24 FE is now available in Malaysia:

In conclusion, the Galaxy S24 FE delivers many flagship features from the S24 series in a more affordable package. There are still some compromises here and there, but I’m confident that it is worth considering if you are looking for the best flagship experience available.
