Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Goes Official

It’s finally here! The Samsung Galaxy S22 series has finally broken its cover with three devices — S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, just like last year.

This time around, Samsung decided to break the rules, and the company already teased that there will be a Note-worthy device coming.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra remains the top of the line in the Galaxy S22 series. Last year’s S21 Ultra was the first Galaxy S series device to support S Pen, but it wasn’t anything like the Note20 Ultra. This time around, the S22 Ultra has a slot for the S Pen and the latency has been reduced to just 2.8ms thanks to the AI algorithm which will predict the movement.

The phone sports a 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, which will adjust the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on what content the screen is showing. It still has the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor located under the screen.

Powering the S22 Ultra is either the 4nm Exynos 2200 processor or the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with up to 12GB RAM and 1TB internal storage. Surprisingly, Malaysia will be getting the Snapdragon variant this time.

In terms of cameras, the S22 Ultra has a quad-camera setup on the back — 12MP ultra-wide + 108MP main + 10MP 3x telephoto + 10MP 10x telephoto, quite similar to its predecessor but the main sensor is larger than the S21 Ultra. Samsung has fitted in a better NPU for improved image quality. As for taking selfies, the phone has a 40MP front-facing camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery and it finally supports 45W fast wired charging. Duly note that the charging brick is sold separately. The phone runs on One UI 4.1 based on Android 12, which comes with better customizations and privacy controls. Other features include the IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is available in four colors — Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, and Burgundy.

As for the Galaxy S22 and S22+, both phones are actually identical to last year’s models with the same design language. The S22 sports a 6.1-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, while the S22+ has a larger 6.6-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. Both screens will adjust the refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on what content they showing.

Powering both phones are either the 4nm Exynos 2200 processor or the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage. This time around, Malaysia will be getting the Snapdragon variant instead.

In terms of cameras, both phones get the new 50MP main camera (with OIS), together with the 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP 3x telephoto camera (with OIS). Samsung also introduced the new Portrait Video feature for the S22 series. Both phones also come with a 10MP front camera for taking selfies.

Both the Galaxy S22 and S22+ pack a 3,700mAh battery and 4,500mAh battery, respectively, with the latter supporting 45W fast wired charging. Just like the S22 Ultra, both phones run on One UI 4.1 based on Android 12, together with features like IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E (S22+)/Wi-Fi 6 (S22), and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are available in four colors — Phantom White, Pink Gold, Phantom Black, and Green.
