Introduction
The Samsung Galaxy A52 was announced a week ago and Samsung Malaysia had already revealed its pricing a few days ago. The phone will be available in Malaysia from March 26 onwards, retailing at RM1,499. I’ve just received the phone and it’s time for the unboxing and first impressions!
Unboxing
Like many non-flagship Samsung phones, the Galaxy A52 comes in a white box. The box design certainly feels less premium compared to the S series and Note series. The box comes with the phone itself, 15W charging brick, USB-A to USB-C cable, SIM ejector tool, and some paperwork. Yes! Unlike the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it has a charging brick, but Samsung still didn’t include the TPU case like it used to be.
First Impressions
The phone has reasonable thick bezels around the screen, and I’m okay with it. It sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen is actually quite nice, safe to say it has one of the best displays for a mid-ranger.
The 32MP front-facing camera has a silver trim around the camera cutout, perhaps this is the way Samsung trying to differentiate between its flagship and non-flagship devices.
The Samsung Galaxy A52 has an in-display fingerprint sensor, but it’s the optical one instead of the ultrasonic one on the S21 Ultra. It works well, but not as fast as the ultrasonic one.
Samsung mentioned that the phone comes with stereo speakers enhanced with Dolby Atmos for a rich soundscape filled with up-leveled depth and detail. Most importantly, it comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, not common for phones nowadays.
The Samsung Galaxy A52 has a quad-camera setup on the back — 64MP main with OIS + 12MP ultra-wide + 5MP macro + 5MP depth sensor. Samsung did well to blend in the camera bump with the back design, which looks unique and nice at the same time.
The back is actually just pure plastic, Samsung didn’t mention the term “glastic” this time around, and it’s okay to have a plastic back since most people will snap a case on it. The Awesome Blue variant looks nice and refreshing, not to forget that the phone actually comes IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Samsung also mentioned that the phone will get software upgrades for three generations, and regular security updates for a minimum of four years.
The Samsung Galaxy A52 is available in four colors — Awesome Violet, Awesome Blue, Awesome White, and Awesome Black. The phone will be available from March 26 at the price of RM1,499. Stay tuned for the full review as I’m currently working on it.
