Dongfeng Heavy Industries Sdn Bhd (DHI) has officially commenced operations in Malaysia as the authorised distributor of Dongfeng trucks, introducing a range of heavy-duty commercial vehicles aimed at supporting the country’s transport, logistics and construction sectors.

Led by Executive Director Quek Wang, a veteran in the commercial vehicle industry, the company will operate from its headquarters in Jalan Meru, Klang. The appointment follows DHI’s designation as Dongfeng’s official distributor in Malaysia late last year.

At the launch, DHI unveiled its initial product portfolio comprising tipper trucks, cement mixer trucks and prime movers. The company said the selected models are intended to offer complementary solutions for various commercial transport applications. Manufactured by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, the trucks are designed to combine durability, efficiency and modern vehicle technologies.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a purchase agreement between DHI and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles involving 200 truck units. The company also formalised an assembly partnership with Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd and concluded several purchase agreements with customers.

Representing Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, Wang Long, Chairman of the Board and Party Secretary of China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import & Export Co Ltd, congratulated the Malaysian team on the launch of the new dealership. He said the development reflects Dongfeng’s commitment to strengthening its footprint in Malaysia while improving customer support and aftersales services. He added that DHI is expected to contribute significantly to expanding the brand’s market presence and delivering greater value to transport operators across the country.

During the launch ceremony, Quek introduced the management team and outlined the specifications of the new truck range. He noted that the vehicles were selected based on the operational requirements of Malaysian transport companies and highlighted that they comply with Euro V emissions standards. According to him, the trucks incorporate proven engine and drivetrain technologies sourced from established manufacturers.

The display line-up included 4×2 and 6×4 prime movers, 6×4 and 8×4 tipper trucks, as well as 6×4 cement mixers. Quek said customers are expected to adopt a mix of vehicle types depending on their operational requirements. All models will be imported as completely knocked down (CKD) units and assembled locally through Gemilang Coachwork.

Commenting on the partnership, Quek said Gemilang Coachwork’s extensive experience in vehicle manufacturing and assembly made it a suitable strategic partner for Dongfeng’s Malaysian operations. He cited the company’s engineering expertise, production capabilities and quality control standards as key factors behind the collaboration.

Gemilang Coachwork Director Pang Jun Jie said the company is well positioned to transform CKD units into market-ready commercial vehicles while meeting stringent industry requirements. He added that the partnership supports Dongfeng’s long-term growth plans in Malaysia.

Quek also emphasised the brand’s focus on reliability and operational uptime. While acknowledging that no vehicle is immune to mechanical issues, he expressed confidence in the trucks’ durability and suitability for demanding operating environments.

To strengthen aftersales support, DHI plans to establish a network of service centres in key locations nationwide. Quek said all authorised workshops will be required to meet strict operational standards and provide mobile rescue services to assist customers in minimising vehicle downtime and returning trucks to service as quickly as possible.
