Apple Announces iPhone 16e with A18 Chip and In-house Modem

Apple officially unveiled the new iPhone 16e, which also marks the death of the iPhone SE. The iPhone 16e is the most affordable iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.

The phone is powered by the A18 chip and it has Apple’s first-ever in-house developed modem, the C1. It also supports satellite connectivity, including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via Satellite.

The iPhone 16e sports a 6.1-inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED screen with Ceramic Shield on top. Apple claims that it has “the best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone”. Apparently, it lasts six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than all generations of iPhone SE.

The iPhone 16e packs a single rear 48MP camera on the back, which is a 2-in-1 camera system that can do lossless 2x zoom. It also features Face ID, USB-C, and comes with iOS 18, offering the complete range of Apple Intelligence features shared across the iPhone 16 lineup. It includes the customizable Action Button but lacks the Camera Control functionality.

Available in white and black, the iPhone 16e will go up for pre-order on February 21 and will be released on February 28. It will come in three storage versions:
