Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 announced

Xiaomi has finally revealed the the hotly-rumored Redmi Note 2. The mid-range device has been upgraded with more powerful hardware, and as is the case with previous members of the Redmi line smartphones, it has a really pretty affordable price tag starting from a mere 799 Yuan which is approximately RM 501. (Don’t think it’s a shout-out to the 501st Legion but significantly competetive pricing regardless).

To start with, the Redmi Note 2 is available in three flavors – 3G/4G 16 GB Redmi Note 2, or 4G 32 GB Redmi Note Prime. Apart from the storage space, both devices are exactly identical in terms of specifications. They both feature a 5.5” Full HD display, and are powered by a MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor mated with 2 GB of RAM. I would say too little RAM but for the price, it is very reasonable.

It has a 13 MP Samsung/OV rear camera that uses Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) technology, with an ultra-fast focus speed of lightning quick 0.1 seconds. The front on the other hand, has a 5 MP shooter on board. Other technical specs include having a decently big battery with a capacity of 3,060 mAh with Quick Charge 2.0 functionality, dual SIM, and runs on the brand new MIUI 7 interface.

The Redmi Note 2 is available in five distinct colors – white, black, pink, brown and light blue, and is retailing for 799 Yuan, about RM 501 (Redmi Note 2 TDD LTE + TD SCDMA), 899 Yuan, about RM 564 (Redmi Note 2 TDD LTE + FDD LTE), and 999 Yuan, about RM 626 (Redmi Note Prime with 32 GB storage).
