Xiaomi 17T Pro Review

Xiaomi 17T Pro Review_11

The Xiaomi T series has made a rather quick return, arriving just eight months after its predecessor. While that may sound like a short upgrade cycle, Xiaomi believes there’s still enough reason to refresh its performance-focused flagship lineup with the new Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro.

For this review, we’ve been spending time with the Xiaomi 17T Pro. On paper, it brings a handful of notable upgrades, including MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9500 chipset and a massive 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 100W HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge. The rest of the package feels familiar, but as always, the real question is whether these improvements are enough to justify an upgrade.

Design

If you’ve used last year’s Xiaomi 15T Pro, the Xiaomi 17T Pro will feel immediately familiar. Xiaomi hasn’t strayed too far from its previous design language, and honestly, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The phone feels solid in hand, thanks to its aluminium alloy frame that sits comfortably between two Gorilla Glass 7i panels. While the front protection remains the same, the rear is where Xiaomi made one of the more meaningful improvements. Instead of the fibre-reinforced plastic back found on its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17T Pro now features Gorilla Glass 7i on both sides.

Besides giving the phone a more premium feel, the glass back also enables wireless charging, something many users have been asking for in the T series.

One minor complaint is the placement of the optical under-display fingerprint scanner. It works reliably enough, but it’s positioned slightly too close to the bottom edge of the display, requiring an extra stretch of the thumb during daily use. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does take some getting used to.

Display

Xiaomi 17T Pro Review_4

Xiaomi didn’t feel the need to change what was already an excellent display, and we’re perfectly fine with that.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro retains the same 6.83-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1,280 × 2,772 pixels, a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, and 12-bit colour depth. It’s a display that continues to impress whether you’re scrolling through social media, gaming, or simply watching videos.

Users with sensitive eyes will especially appreciate the 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, which helps reduce eye strain during extended use under lower brightness levels.

Watching HDR content is equally enjoyable. The display supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, making compatible content on YouTube, Netflix and other streaming platforms look vibrant with excellent contrast and impressive highlights.

Outdoor visibility is equally strong, with brightness levels that remain perfectly usable even under direct sunlight. Overall, this continues to be one of the stronger displays you’ll find in its class.

Dimensity 9500

Powering the Xiaomi 17T Pro is MediaTek’s latest 3nm Dimensity 9500 processor, paired with 12GB RAM and storage configurations of up to 1TB.

In everyday usage, performance is exactly what you’d expect from a flagship smartphone. Apps open almost instantly, switching between multiple applications feels effortless, and the overall user experience remains consistently smooth.

Benchmark numbers tell a slightly different story. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found inside the Xiaomi 17, the Dimensity 9500 falls just a little behind in synthetic CPU benchmarks.

Interestingly, gaming performance paints a different picture.

In our 3DMark tests, the Xiaomi 17T Pro actually managed to outperform the Xiaomi 17. This is likely thanks to the larger chassis, which provides more room for heat dissipation, alongside Xiaomi’s upgraded 3D IceLoop cooling system that helps the chipset maintain higher sustained performance during demanding workloads.

For gamers and power users, that’s arguably more meaningful than simply chasing benchmark numbers.

Xiaomi HyperOS 3

The Xiaomi 17T Pro ships with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, offering the same software experience found on the Xiaomi 17.

If you’ve already read our Xiaomi 17 review, the overall interface remains largely unchanged. Navigation feels fluid, animations are smooth, and Xiaomi continues refining the overall user experience with every software update.

One welcome addition is native file-sharing support for Apple devices via Quick Share, making it significantly easier to transfer files between Android and iPhone users without relying on third-party apps. It’s a small addition, but one that improves day-to-day convenience.

Camera

Rather than reinventing its camera system, Xiaomi has chosen to refine an already capable setup.

The main camera now uses what Xiaomi calls the Light Fusion 950 sensor, replacing last year’s Light Fusion 900. Internally, the phone identifies it as the OmniVision OVX9500, which appears to be closely related to the OV50H sensor. Regardless of the branding, it remains a large 1/1.3-inch sensor paired with a bright f/1.67 lens and optical image stabilisation.

The 50MP 5x telephoto camera returns from the previous generation, continuing to use Samsung’s JN5 sensor, while the ultrawide camera sticks with a 13MP RGB sensor that outputs 12MP images. Meanwhile, selfies are handled by a 32MP Samsung sensor with a fixed-focus lens.

In daylight, the Xiaomi 17T Pro consistently produces excellent photos packed with detail and vibrant colours. Xiaomi once again gives users the choice between Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic processing modes, allowing you to choose between punchier colours or a more natural photographic look.

The 5x telephoto camera remains one of the highlights. Images exhibit slightly deeper shadows and stronger contrast than those captured by the main camera, but the overall image quality remains excellent with plenty of detail.

Even at 10x zoom, the Xiaomi 17T Pro performs surprisingly well. While brighter areas can occasionally appear slightly dreamy and fine foliage isn’t always perfectly sharp, the results are impressive considering the relatively compact 50MP sensor.

The ultrawide camera may have the least ambitious hardware of the trio, but it still manages to produce very pleasing images with respectable sharpness, natural colours, and a wide dynamic range. The lack of autofocus does limit its flexibility for close-up ultrawide shots, but for landscapes and architecture, it remains perfectly capable.

When the sun goes down, the primary camera continues to impress. Low-light photos retain excellent detail while preserving highlights and shadow information nicely. The telephoto camera remains usable at night as well, although images tend to feature deeper shadows and slightly less saturated colours compared to the main sensor.

Overall, Xiaomi continues to deliver one of the better camera systems in this price segment, especially for users who enjoy versatile zoom photography.

Battery Life

Xiaomi 17T Pro Review_10

One of the biggest upgrades this year comes in the form of battery capacity.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro packs a huge 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery while still maintaining a relatively manageable form factor. Combined with the efficiency of the 3nm Dimensity 9500 processor, battery life is genuinely impressive.

During our testing, the phone comfortably lasted two full days on a single charge with mixed usage that included photography, video streaming, messaging, navigation, and social media browsing.

Charging remains fast as well, supporting both 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge.

That said, despite the high charging speeds, the larger silicon-carbon battery naturally requires more time to fill. A full charge from empty took approximately 40 minutes, which is still very respectable considering the battery capacity involved.

Final Words

Xiaomi 17T Pro Review_11

The Xiaomi 17T Pro continues the strengths that have made Xiaomi’s T series popular over the years. It offers an excellent display, flagship-level performance, highly capable cameras, fast wired and wireless charging, and this year’s standout feature — exceptional battery life.

It’s a smartphone that feels refined rather than revolutionary, focusing on meaningful quality-of-life improvements instead of chasing flashy new features.

The only thing preventing us from giving it an immediate recommendation is its launch pricing. At its initial retail price, there are alternatives within Xiaomi’s own lineup that offer similar value for less money.

If you’re not in a rush to upgrade, we’d recommend waiting a little while for promotions and price adjustments to arrive. Once the dust settles, the Xiaomi 17T Pro becomes a much more compelling package. However, if you need a new phone today, Xiaomi already has several more affordable options that deliver a similar flagship experience without stretching your budget quite as much.
