Sony Announces Xperia 1 III and Two Other Xperia III Series Devices

Sony has officially announced three new Xperia III (Mark 3) series devices — the Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III. Both Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are flagship devices offered in different sizes, while the Xperia 10 III is a mid-range device that has been designed with power, speed, and portability in mind.

Xperia 1 III

The Xperia 1 III is the world’s first smartphone with a variable telephoto lens paired with a dual PD sensor. It comes with a 12MP ultra-wide lens + 12MP main camera with OIS + 3D TOF sensor + 12MP telephoto lens. Its telephoto lens allows you to switch between 70mm and 105mm focal lengths, which are around 2.9x and 4.4x optical zoom.

For optimal camera performance, Sony has put ZEISS lenses with T coating. It also comes with features like real-time Eye AF, Optical SteadyShot, and 4K recording at 120fps. As for the front camera, it still uses the same old 8MP selfie camera.

The Xperia 1 III sports a 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWide display with a 4K HDR OLED display panel and a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB UFS expandable storage.

The phone runs on Android 11 and packs a 4,500mAh battery that also supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) fast charging. As usual, the phone is IP65/68 rated for protection from dust and water.

Xperia 5 III

As for the Xperia 5 III, it is actually a compact version of the Xperia 1 III with a smaller 6.1-inch CinemaWide Full HD+ HDR OLED 120Hz display. The phone has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor but with 8GB RAM and 256GB UFS expandable storage. It also comes with the same camera setup minus the 3D TOF sensor.

The phone is IP65/68 rated for dust and water resistance. It runs on Android 11 and packs a 4,500mAh battery that also supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) fast charging.

Xperia 10 III

The Xperia 10 III is a mid-range device with 5G connectivity. It sports a 6-inch 12:9 wide Full HD+ HDR OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage.

In terms of cameras, the phone has a triple-camera setup — 12MP main + 8MP ultra-wide + 8MP telephoto lens with 54mm focal length. It still has the same 8MP front-facing camera for taking selfies.

Like the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III, the Xperia 10 III is also IP65/68 rated for dust and water resistance. It runs on Android 11 and packs a 4,500mAh battery that also supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) fast charging.

Price and Availability

The Xperia 1 III will be available in Frosted Black and Frosted Purple from the end of July. As for the Xperia 5 III, it will be available in Green and shipping from September. The mid-range Xperia 10 III will be available in Black and Blue from August. All prices will be announced at a later date.
