Sony Announces WF-1000XM4 Truly Wireless Headphones

Sony has announced the WF-1000XM4, which is the latest truly wireless model in the 1000X lineup. The WF-1000XM4 earpieces retain the industry-leading noise canceling and audio quality that Sony’s headphones are known for. This was done with the help of the newly designed Integrated Processor V1 that was specially developed by Sony. The V1 chip is the successor of the QN1e chip that was known to have a great noise-canceling performance and amp-ing it up to the next level.

The WF-1000XM4 also features high-performance dual noise sensor microphones for accurate noise cancellation. Besides that, there is also a newly designed 6mm driver unit with an increase of 20%, further improving its noise-canceling capabilities. The tips are also newly developed, known as the Noise Isolation Earbud Tips, which provides an improved fit in the ears. The earbud tips are made from a unique polyurethane foam material that is soft and elastic, which maximizes the surface contact area between the earbud tip and the ear canal to eliminate the gaps, further insulating sound and reducing noise.

The WF-1000XM4 supports High-Resolution Audio Wireless, courtesy of Sony’s industry-adopted audio coding technology, the LDAC. LDAC can transmit approx. three times more data at a max transfer rate of 990kbps, way faster than conventional Bluetooth audio. The experience, stated by Sony: “as close as possible to that of a dedicated wired connection.

Not the forget the previously mentioned V1 processor, both the LDAC and V1 works in perfect harmony to produce a dynamic sound range despite the form factor of the WF-1000XM4.

Furthermore, there are also the quality of life features for the WF-1000XM4. The speak-to-chat feature is available on the device, which lets you have short conversations without the need to take out your earbuds. There is also Quick Attention mode, which automatically lets you listen to an announcement or say something briefly. Adaptive Sound Control is also present in the device, it’s a smart feature that senses where you are and what you’re currently doing, it automatically adjusts its settings for an ideal listening experience.

The ergonomics of the earbuds is also an amalgamation of previous research and development since the first in-ear headphones in 1982. The WF-1000XM4 is designed to be smaller and lighter, but with no compromises.
Battery life performance for the WF-1000XM4 boasts a full 8 hours of use, with a further 16 hours if charged with the case. A 5-minute quick charge gives the WF-1000XM4 up to 60 minutes of playtime. The charging case is also capable of wireless charging.

The WF-1000XM4 is also water-resistant, with an IPX4 water resistance rating. Users of the WF-1000XM4 need not worry whether it’s raining or sweating on a hot day, the WF-1000XM4 is durable enough to deliver.
