Sony Announces Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 10 IV

Sony has announced two new smartphones — the flagship Xperia 1 IV and the ultra-lightweight Xperia 10 IV. Both phones are the fourth iteration devices, which still pack the same design since day one.

Xperia 1 IV

The Xperia 1 IV is the latest flagship phone that comes with the World’s First True Optical Zoom Lens. The phone packs three lenses — a 16mm ultra-wide lens, a 24mm wide lens, and a new unique true optical telephoto zoom 85–125mm lens. All lenses have a 12MP “Exmor RS for mobile” image sensor with a readout speed of up to 120fps. This capability allows the device to record at 4K 120fps for up to 5x slow-motion video recording, Real-time Eye AF, and Real-time tracking for still shooting with every lens. The Xperia 1 IV also combines depth information, using the 3D iToF sensor, and AI (artificial intelligence) based subject detection for precise and accurate AF and tracking in low light.

Additionally, ZEISS optics have been calibrated specifically for the Xperia smartphone. The ZEISS T* coating contributes to accurate rendering and contrast by reducing reflections for all rear camera lenses. The front camera is also equipped with an “Exmor RS™ for mobile” image sensor with 12MP, which is a larger image sensor than the previous model. It enables noise reduction in dark places and selfie shooting in 4K HDR.

The Xperia 1 IV sports a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED 21:9 display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. You can still expand it via a MicroSD card, something that flagship phones don’t offer nowadays.

Other features include an IP65/68 water and dust resistance rating, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus front and back, a 5,000mAh battery with 30W charging, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G connectivity, and Android 12. The phone will be available in Malaysia from early July 2022 in Black and Purple, together with accessories like Style Cover with Stand and more.

Xperia 10 IV

The Xperia 10 IV is the world’s lightest 5G smartphone with a 5,000mAh battery. It sports a 6-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus which brings improvement in both drop and scratch performance. Powering the phone is a 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

In terms of cameras, the Xperia 10 IV has the same camera setup as its predecessor — a 12MP main + an 8MP ultrawide + an 8MP 2x telephoto camera. The main camera now boasts OIS and Sony has also added new features such as Superior Auto mode, Auto HDR, a dedicated Night mode, and AI-based face sharpening for selfies on the 8MP front camera.

Like the Xperia 1 IV, the Xperia 10 IV is also IP65/68 water and dust resistance rated and runs on Android 12. The phone will be available in Malaysia from 1 August 2022, in 2 different colors — Black and Mint.
