Just recently, both Proton and smart Automobile Company had signed an MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) whereby Proton will use Proton Edar, which is its distribution network to distribute smart electric vehicles into Malaysia and Thailand.
The new range of smart cars is now going to be fully electric, they had signed a joint venture with Geely to develop and manufacture their electric models. The Concept #1 is going to be one of the first electric vehicles to enter the South East Asian EV market.
The concept car was previewed at the Munich Auto Show last year. The exterior and interior of the concept car are futuristic yet minimalistic, with simple lines, curves, and surfaces melding into a cohesive design. Although there are no technical details yet, Concept #1 will be based on Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA).
For now, Proton had yet to reveal a timeline for the introduction of the smart brand, but do expect it to arrive on Malaysian shores soon as the timing is right to talk advantage of the lucrative tax exemption given by the Malaysian government.
