Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 Officially Announced

The wait is over! The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 are now officially announced at Samsung Unpacked event! Both devices now come with an IPX8 rating for water resistance, not a usual feature for a foldable device.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 sports a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, the same as its predecessor. However, the 4MP selfie camera now has made its way under the display, making it the first Samsung phone to have an under-display camera.

Like the Galaxy Note series and Galaxy S21 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold3 now supports S Pen. The S Pen now comes with two S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. Both feature a specially engineered retractable Pro tip with force limit technology to protect Z Fold3’s Main Screen for peace of mind while using the S Pen.

The Cover Screen of the Galaxy Z Fold3 is a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 10MP hole-punch selfie camera for taking selfies if you are not satisfied with the under-display selfie camera.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. In terms of camera, the phone comes with the same triple-camera setup as its predecessor — 12MP ultra-wide + 12MP main with Dual Pixel AF and OIS + 12MP telephoto with OIS.

This time around, the company also focuses the durability by introducing an Armor Aluminum frame. The protective panel over the internal display has also been toughened up and can now withstand more abuse. Samsung has also made the Z Fold3 more compact and lighter, but the battery capacity is also reduced to 4,400mAh (4,500mAh on Z Fold2). Its top charging speed still remains at 25W, the same as the Z Fold2.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is available in three colors — Phantom Green, Phantom Black, and Phantom Silver. As of now, the pricing of the phone in Malaysia remains unknown. We’ll keep you posted when we got more information.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3

The Galaxy Z Flip3 is the successor to the original Z Flip, yes, Samsung has skipped the number 2 to match the Z Fold3. The phone now comes with a larger 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display with a 260 x 512 resolution. It sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display and now gets an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.

Powering the phone is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The Galaxy Z Flip3 now comes with a dual-camera setup next to the cover display — 12MP ultra-wide + 12MP main with Dual Pixel AF and OIS. As for taking selfies, it has a 10MP front-facing camera.

Just like the Z Fold3, the Z Flip3 features an Armor Aluminum frame. The phone is now 1.3mm shorter, 1.4mm narrower, and 0.3mm thinner than its predecessor, while the weight is unchanged at 183g. It still packs a 3,300mAh battery with 15W charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is available in seven colors — Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, Gray, White, and Pink. Keep in mind that the latter three will be exclusive to Samsung.com.

Samsung also announced a few colorful cases with metal rings or leather straps for the phone, sold separately. As of now, the pricing of the phone in Malaysia remains unknown. We’ll keep you posted when we got more information.
