First Look: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 First Look_2

Samsung finally announced the new Galaxy Z Flip5, I was lucky to spend a short period of time with the phone before the launch. Without further ado, here’s the first look at the brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Specs

The main highlight of the new Galaxy Z Flip5 is its 3.4-inch (720×748) Super AMOLED 60Hz Flex Window, which Samsung previously called the Cover Screen. The new Flex Window is now 3.78x larger than the Z Flip4 and it offers a wide range of existing and new capabilities. You are now able to access Widgets, which lets you check the weather, control music playback and listen to your favorite music with Media Controller, or catch up on the latest global stock market updates with the Google Finance widget.

You can also check notifications and access Quick Settings for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Additionally, it also allows you to reply to texts on the go using Quick Reply with a full QWERTY keyboard and visibility of chat history. A quick swipe up on the screen will open Samsung Wallet for you to pay on the go. You can even use the Flex Window to watch YouTube videos, Netflix, and TikTok!

With the new Flex Hinge, the Galaxy Z Flip5 now closes flat without any gap. The new integrated hinge module features a dual rail structure, diffusing external impacts.

Flipping open the Galaxy Z Flip5, you’ll see no difference compared to its predecessor. Yes, the crease at the center is still pretty visible, but you’ll get used to it after using it for a long time.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 is available in Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, while the online exclusive will get four more colors — Gray, Blue, Green, and Yellow. Unfortunately, they all have a glossy finish, instead of a matte finish like the Z Flip4. Fret not, it is still a pretty durable device thanks to the IPX8 rating, Armor Aluminum frame, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 applied to both the Flex Window and back cover.

Compared to the Z Flip4, the Z Flip5 has a larger cover screen (Flex Window) and it closes flat without any gap. The rest is pretty much the same apart from the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for Galaxy. Even the cameras are still the same, though Samsung did mention the post-processing of images will be better thanks to the upgraded processor.

This time around, there will be no Bespoke Edition, this is because Samsung now has the new Flipsuit Case that provides device protection with a changeable NFC card, so users can match their Flex Window design and case design for even more personalization options.
