Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 Officially Announced

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5

The wait is over! Samsung today announced its fifth generation foldables — Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5. Both devices now offer sleek and compact designs, countless customization options, and powerful performance. Samsung also designs both devices to meet durability expectations. Along with IPX8 support, Armor Aluminum frames, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus2 applied to both the Flex Window and back cover, both devices provide the protection consumers expect, enhanced further by Flex Hinge.

Galaxy Z Flip5

The Galaxy Z Flip5 now features the new Flex Window, which Samsung previously called the Cover Screen for its predecessor. It is now a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED 60Hz display (720×748) that allows access to widgets, reply to texts with a full QWERTY keyboard, and even use Samsung Wallet. You can even use the Flex Window to watch YouTube videos, Netflix, and TikTok!

Flipping open the phone, you’ll see 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Powering the Galaxy Z Flip5 is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for Galaxy with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB internal storage.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 packs the same dual-camera setup on the cover — a 12MP ultra-wide camera + 12MP primary camera with OIS and Dual Pixel AF. It also has the same 10MP front-facing camera for taking selfies. Ultimately, you can use the rear cameras to take selfies thanks to the Flex Window.

The phone packs a 3,700mAh battery that supports 25W wired charging, charging up to 50% of the battery in 30 minutes. It runs on One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13.

Available in Malaysia from 18 August 2023 onwards, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will be available in 256GB and 512GB models, priced at RM4,499 and RM4,999, respectively. It will be available in Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, while Gray, Blue, Green, and Yellow are available exclusively on Samsung.com.

Galaxy Z Fold5

The Galaxy Z Fold5 is the thinnest and lightest Fold ever, measuring just 13.4mm thin and weighing only 253g, that’s only 19g heavier than the S23 Ultra.

The fifth iteration is quite identical to its predecessor, but Samsung now provides an improved Taskbar that enables dynamic productivity by allowing users to switch between frequently used apps quickly. Newly enhanced two-handed drag and drop can also ramp up productivity when moving content between apps and screens. Simply touch and hold an image in Samsung Gallery with one finger and use another finger to open the Samsung Notes app to drag and drop the image.

The Galaxy Z Fold5 sports a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Main Screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a less visible Under Display Camera (UDC). The Cover Screen is still a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for Galaxy with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage.

The camera setup is pretty much the same as its predecessor too — 50MP main with Dual Pixel AF OIS + 12MP ultra-wide + 10MP telephoto (3x optical zoom) with OIS. It also has a 10MP selfie camera on the cover and a 4MP Under Display Camera underneath the Main Screen.

The device packs a 4,400mAh battery that supports 25W wired charging. It runs on One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13, which still features Multi Window and App Continuity.

Additionally, the new slimmer and more compact S Pen Fold Edition makes real-time annotating and ideation easy while being able to fit more comfortably in the pocket. The Slim S Pen Case is nearly the same thickness as a regular case for the Fold and is available in a variety of styles and colors so users can carry their S Pens in style.

Available in Malaysia from 18 August 2023 onwards, the Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream, while Gray and Blue are available exclusively on Samsung.com. Here are the retail prices:
