Samsung announced the latest Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Watch8 series devices a couple of days ago, which all feature Galaxy AI.

During the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung addressed ongoing speculation regarding a potential subscription model for Galaxy AI, confirming that it has no plans to charge for AI features provided by default.
Galaxy AI already offers a comprehensive suite of productivity tools powered by Samsung’s AI models, with recent devices leveraging new hardware to enable more capable on-device and hybrid AI experiences. The notion that Samsung might eventually charge for these features has been a topic of discussion, as running advanced AI models requires ongoing investment and energy, with other companies in the industry adopting paid models for similar services.
However, Samsung clarified during Unpacked that there are no plans to charge for any Galaxy AI features, including those integrated into One UI 8 on the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, as well as the Galaxy Watch8 series.
While rumors have suggested that Samsung was exploring potential subscription models for Galaxy AI features, the company’s current stance aligns with its original promise to keep Galaxy AI free through 2025. Samsung reiterated that the commitment remains in place.
For now, features like Live Translate for phone calls and Generative Edit in the photo app will continue to be available to users without any additional fees. While Samsung has noted that “default” features will remain free, it remains to be seen whether certain advanced AI capabilities could be moved behind a paywall in the future.
