Samsung Galaxy A54 5G First Impressions

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G was announced a few weeks ago, the company’s latest approach targeting the Gen Z market. The most noticeable difference from its predecessor is the brand-new design, which has the same clean three-camera ring design as the flagship Galaxy S23 series. I just got it for nearly a week, and here are my first impressions of the phone.

Unboxing

Phones nowadays have a rather boring unboxing experience as included accessories are getting lesser and taking an environment-friendly approach. Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy A54 has a rather thin box without a charging adapter, meaning you’ll only get the phone, USB-C cable, SIM ejector tool, and paperwork.

First Impressions

The Galaxy A54 is available in four colors — Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White. My review unit is the Awesome White variant, which has a glossy back that is prone to attracting visible fingerprints, but it’s harder to notice fingerprints on this particular variant.

As mentioned at the beginning of the post, the Galaxy A54 shares the same design language as the Galaxy S23 series, which has a cleaner three-camera ring design. One noticeable upgrade is its back glass, Samsung has swapped the plastic back to Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for this generation, making feels more premium but also heavier than its predecessor (202g vs 189g) at the same time. The phone is still IP67 rated for water and dust resistance, which suits your active outdoor lifestyle.

Looking at the front of the phone, you’ll see the 6.4-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Vision Booster. It has more rounded edges compared to its predecessor, but it still has thick bezels all around with the chin slightly thicker than the rest. The 32MP front camera still has a silver trim around the camera cutout, probably this is the way Samsung trying to differentiate between its flagship and non-flagship devices.

The phone has a triple-camera setup — 50MP main with OIS + 12MP ultra-wide + 5MP macro. Stay tuned for the full review to find out more about its camera performance.

Powered by the latest 5nm Exynos 1380 processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, the Galaxy A54 got the same high-end feature from the Galaxy S23 series — Object Eraser. This feature allows you to remove unwanted objects from your photos. It runs on One UI 5.1 on top of Android 13 with a guarantee of up to four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

Retailing at RM1,899, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is now available at Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung Authorized Retailers, and Samsung Online Store (Lazada | Shopee). Be sure to stay tuned for our full review as we are now in the middle of testing the phone.
