It seems that it’s the end for Samsung’s latest flagship device — Galaxy Note7. According to Bloomberg, Samsung has announced that it is ending the production of the Galaxy Note7 and permanently discontinuing it worldwide.
This means that the Galaxy Note7 will not be available for purchase anymore, even before it officially launched in Malaysia. The decision comes immediately after the company issued a press release asking users to power down all original and replaced Note7 units, and for retailers and career partners to stop sales and exchanges of the smartphone.
It all started with the battery exploding reports in late August, Samsung did what it could by replacing not just the affected, but all the units to prevent the same case happens once again. It even restricted the older devices from charging beyond 60% as well as rolling out a new green battery update to indicate that the replaced unit is safe to use.
Sadly, after the replacement units also started catching fire, the company eventually asked everyone to power them down. And finally the company has announced that it is ending the production of the Galaxy Note7 and permanently discontinuing it worldwide. By making this decision, it may cost the company $17 billion (about RM71 billion) in lost sales.
It’s kind of sad as the Galaxy Note7 is really a pretty beautiful device. So, are you going to get the iPhone 7/7 Plus, or stick with Samsung’s 2016 first flagship — Galaxy S7/S7 edge?
