MWC 2018: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ Officially Announced

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ made the official debut at MWC 2018. Looking at the design, the new flagships look quite identical over the predecessors. Both phones retain the same glass sandwich design with IP68 water and dust resistant certification. Additionally, the company has trimmed the screen bezels for smaller footprints. The company has also made some minor design changes such as the well-hidden sensors, redesigned speaker grill, and a properly placed fingerprint scanner.

Both Galaxy S9 and S9+ still have the same Super AMOLED Infinity Display — 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch, respectively. In terms of performance, both devices are powered by the latest Exynos 9810 processor with 4GB (S9) or 6GB (S9+) RAM. The North American and Chinese markets will be getting the S9/S9+ with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, though.

As for the camera, both devices now have a 12MP main camera with the variable aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4). Aided by OIS and the new Super Speed Dual Pixel tech, both devices now come with some new camera features such as 960fps Super Slow-mo recording with automatic Motion Detection, AR Emoji (something like Apple’s Animoji), and Live Translation powered by Bixby. Not to forget that the Galaxy S9+ also has a secondary 12MP telephoto lens with OIS. Selfie wise, both phones have an 8MP f/1.7 AF front camera.

Finally, both phones now come with AKG tuned stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support as well. The batteries of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ remain the same — 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh. Both devices still support fast wired charging and wireless charging, though.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available on 16 March 2018. Three of the four colors will be available: Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple, while the Titanium Gray variant availability remains unknown. The retail prices are shown below:
