Redmi Note 13 5G Review

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 13 series last month, and today, we have the opportunity to review the Redmi Note 13 5G, the entry-level 5G model within this series. After using the phone extensively for over a couple of weeks, let’s dive into the comprehensive review without delay.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 5G Specs

Design

The Redmi Note 13 5G adopts a design language reminiscent of its predecessor. Xiaomi has refined the bezels around the screen, resulting in a more premium appearance than its predecessor.

The phone showcases a slender and lightweight design, measuring a mere 7.6mm in thickness and weighing 174.5g. The Arctic White variant, which I had for review, imparts a clean, elegant, and classy aesthetic. A notable feature is the shimmering effect on the back, adding a touch of uniqueness to the overall appearance.

Display

The Redmi Note 13 5G boasts a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, equipped with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Xiaomi boldly asserts that the phone features a flagship-grade AMOLED display, a claim that invites scrutiny. The screen impressively covers the entire DCI-P3 wide color gamut, and with its 10-bit color depth, it promises an immersive and captivating visual experience.

Contrary to the claim of a flagship-level screen, the display on the Redmi Note 13 5G doesn’t quite meet that expectation. However, it’s crucial to note that within its price range, the display remains impressive. The colors are vivid and vibrant, making the viewing experience enjoyable, and considering its cost, it stands out as a commendable feature.

Performance

The Redmi Note 13 5G is driven by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor, coupled with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. Its processor, the MediaTek Dimensity 6080, finds its counterpart in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. Through my usage, I’ve observed both chipsets exhibit comparable performance, with a slight advantage leaning toward the Snapdragon 695. It’s worth noting that while this phone may not excel in gaming, adjusting graphic settings allows for a reasonable gaming experience.

Software

Operating on MIUI 14, built upon Android 13, the Redmi Note 13 5G comes with a promise from Xiaomi – a guaranteed 48-month fluid experience. This assurance signifies that the phone has undergone rigorous testing to minimize software aging and slowdowns, ensuring sustained performance even after 48 months of use. The user experience is quite similar to before, and I’m still struggling to navigate through the messy settings.

Camera

The Redmi Note 13 5G packs a triple-camera setup on the back — 8MP ultra-wide + 108MP main + 2MP macro. Yes, you can ignore the macro camera as it doesn’t affect the image quality too much. The phone also has a 16MP front camera for taking selfies.

The overall image quality of the Redmi Note 13 5G is generally decent, but there’s a slight inconsistency in colors between the ultra-wide and main cameras. In daylight conditions, both cameras perform well, revealing their true colors in low-light situations. The main camera impressively captures detailed and well-exposed low-light photos. However, the ultra-wide camera’s performance is mediocre in low-light scenarios, displaying notable softness and issues with blown-out light sources.

Battery Life

Equipped with a 5,000mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging, the Redmi Note 13 5G offers commendable battery life. With moderate usage, I found myself easily getting nearly 2 days of battery life. While the phone takes about an hour and 15 minutes to fully charge from 0%, it may not be the fastest charging option available, but it strikes a satisfactory balance for most users.

Final Words

With a price tag of RM1,099, the Redmi Note 13 5G unquestionably stands out as the top 5G device for budget-conscious consumers. Offering a solid performance overall, it doesn’t disappoint, especially considering its affordable price. The device impresses with its appealing aesthetics, smooth operation, and reliable main and selfie cameras. For those on a tight budget, the Redmi Note 13 5G emerges as a compelling and dependable choice.
