Qualcomm has introduced its latest flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, designed to power the next generation of premium smartphones with enhanced on-device AI, gaming, imaging and connectivity capabilities.
Announced at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, the two new mobile platforms expand Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon portfolio as the company targets the growing demand for AI-powered mobile experiences. According to Qualcomm, both platforms are designed to deliver agentic AI experiences that are more immediate, personal and adaptive.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 sits at the top of Qualcomm’s new mobile platform lineup. The company describes it as its most powerful mobile platform, with a focus on advanced AI capabilities and performance for premium Android smartphones.
One of the key additions is enhanced support for everyday AI agents, which are designed to provide faster, more personalised and dependable experiences while adapting to users throughout the day. Qualcomm is positioning these capabilities as part of the next phase of on-device intelligence, allowing smartphones to deliver more personalised experiences.
For gaming, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 introduces Adreno Neural Fusion. The technology uses AI to enhance graphics processing, with Qualcomm highlighting improvements aimed at delivering more immersive gameplay and richer visuals while also supporting longer gaming sessions.
The new platform also brings AI-powered camera capabilities, including Advanced Professional Video (APV) support and Intelligent Pixel Control. These features are designed to provide deeper scene understanding and enhance image quality, while producing more natural-looking photos and videos.
Alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Qualcomm has also introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The platform is built using the same advanced 2nm process node and features Qualcomm’s custom-built Oryon CPU, rearchitected Adreno GPU and advanced Hexagon NPU.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is designed to bring many of the AI, gaming, imaging and connectivity capabilities introduced with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 to a broader range of top-tier smartphones.
Qualcomm says the two new platforms will power flagship smartphones from a range of leading global OEMs and smartphone brands. These include HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, Samsung, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
With the introduction of two new flagship platforms, Qualcomm is expanding its premium mobile portfolio while putting a greater focus on AI-powered experiences. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is positioned for the company’s highest-end Android smartphones, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is aimed at bringing many of the same core capabilities to a wider range of premium devices.
Devices powered by both platforms are set to debut in upcoming flagship smartphones from participating smartphone brands.
