OPPO F7 Review: For Better You

Introduction

The OPPO F7 is the latest smartphone released by OPPO that specializes in taking selfie photos. It has not been long since they launched the F5. What is so special about the F7? Check out the OPPO F7 review here!

Unboxing

OPPO F7 comes in a pretty familiar box, everything in the box is similar to OPPO F5:

Design

The current trend for smartphones right now is the notch, every smartphones company are following the current trend, of course, there are no exceptions for OPPO F7. The phone has an 82.5% screen-to-body ratio.

The OPPO F7 comes with a 6.23-inch 1,080 x 2,280 px Full HD+ display. I really enjoy watching videos and movies on this phone because the notch gives me bigger display. Besides that, the screen has become more responsive compared to the F5.

The fingerprint sensor is located on the back of the phone as the front is fully “occupied” by the screen. The rest of the design placements are basically same as OPPO F5.

I personally think it is quite remarkable with it facial recognition speed. It took only a split second to unlock the phone. But I do not encourage people to use this method to unlock the phone because I manage to unlock the phone with facial recognition when I am covering my mouth with my hand.

Hardware & Software

OPPO F7 is powered by octa-core (4x 2.0GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×2.0GHz Cortex-A53) MediaTek Helio P60. It is more than enough for casual gaming, Facebook surfing and replying messages.

It comes with game acceleration mode that will automatically optimize the phone before launching the game and block all notifications while you are gaming. I personally am in a lot of different whats app and Telegram group so sometimes it really bothers me when I am playing games.

OPPO F7 runs on ColorOS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Software experience is pretty decent compared to the previous version.

25MP Selfie Camera

This is the main selling point of the camera is its 25MP monstrous selfie camera that allows you to shoot high-resolution photos and with the AI feature that detects the age of your face. On the other hand, It also comes with built-in stickers for the camera. The phone has a 16MP f/1.8 rear camera, by the way.

1 / 7

Image quality generally is pretty good, some photos appear to have over-sharpening, though. For social media usage, for sure the OPPO F7 won’t disappoint you!

Battery Life

Battery life for OPPO F7 is pretty decent. It can last through a day easily and it allows me to watch 4 hours and 30 minutes of movies without stopping. Just like the F5, the F7 uses a 5V/2A charger which means there’s no fast charging.

Final Words

The OPPO F7 retails at RM1,399 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model and RM1,699 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. I personally would give 7/10 for this phone because of its camera and the speed of unlocking the screen with the fingerprint sensor and face recognition. But it is dangerous as everyone can unlock your phone by just putting the phone in front of you. Furthermore, the phone doesn’t support fast charging. Overall, I think the OPPO F7 is a phone for those who like to take selfies.
