OPPO A95 Review_1

We are living in a world where good phones are getting cheaper and cheap phones are getting better. This is OPPO A95, the company’s latest mid-range device at an affordable price. Without further ado, let’s dive into the full review to find out more.

OPPO A95 Specs

  • 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB storage
  • Cameras
    • Rear: 48MP main + 2MP depth + 2MP macro
    • Front: 16MP
  • 5,000mAh battery with 33W Flash Charge
  • ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11

OPPO A95 Review_2

The front of the OPPO A95 is the 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. To be honest, it’s a good move to stick with a 60Hz AMOLED display, instead of opting for a 120Hz LCD display, since having a high refresh rate is only useful when you are gaming, and this is not a phone for gaming. It has the best-in-class screen quality, just like its predecessor.

There’s a selfie camera cutout at the top left corner, which is a pretty common thing for phones nowadays. As usual, the bottom chin is thicker, which looks rather asymmetrical but it’s okay for a phone at this price range.

The bottom of the phone houses the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, USB-C port, and speaker grille. The OPPO A95 supports 33W Flash Charge via its USB-C port. OPPO claims that a 5-minute charge will provide 5 hours of voice calls.

Available in two stylish colors — Glowing Rainbow Silver and Glowing Starry Black, the OPPO A95 features the same OPPO Glow process, pretty similar to the Reno6 series. The only difference is that the back panel of the A95 is made of plastic, or acrylic glass, not the same glass material as the higher-end Reno6 series.

The Glowing Rainbow Silver variant offers a different visual experience under different lighting, while the Glowing Starry Black variant looks like the reflection of distant stars on a calm sea.

OPPO A95 Review_7

The OPPO A95 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. My review unit only comes with 6GB RAM, so it doesn’t represent the final retail unit. The overall performance is pretty much similar to many other mid-range devices. It’s the user experience of the phone where you can really find out the differences.

OPPO A95 Review_8

The OPPO A95 runs on ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11. Basically, the user experience is pretty similar to other OPPO devices with some features missing. Combined with the decent processor, navigating through different apps is not a huge problem, but don’t expect it to be as fast as other OPPO higher-end devices.

OPPO A95 Review_9

In terms of camera, the OPPO A95 packs a triple-camera setup on the back — 48MP main + 2MP depth + 2MP macro. Basically, only one camera is useful, no idea why OPPO has removed the ultra-wide camera from its predecessor. I would rather OPPO remove both depth and macro cameras for the ultra-wide camera. There’s also a 16MP front-facing camera for taking selfies.

Night Mode

Image quality generally is quite decent with great dynamic range, though the white balance appears to be slightly warmer, that’s OPPO’s AI algorithm doing the job. Night mode photos failed to capture crisp details, but the colors are still okay. You can check out the camera samples here.

OPPO A95 Review_10

The OPPO A95 packs a 5,000mAh battery with 33W Flash Charge. In terms of battery life, the phone can last a day or two easily. It’s not a performance beast, so you wouldn’t spend too much time playing games with this phone, it’s not for gaming after all.

Final Words

OPPO A95 Review_11

Retailing at RM1,099, the OPPO A95 is priced lower than last year’s A93. It is a great phone for you to watch videos and dramas on the go with good battery life. The phone is now available for pre-order with a few fantastic rewards worth up to RM486. Each pre-order will be eligible to purchase OPPO’s wireless earbuds — the Enco Buds at RM1 only (RRP RM159), RM50 promo code on the My OPPO app, an extended 6 months warranty worth RM49.90, and an OPPO VOOC Powerbank worth RM229.
