OnePlus 9 Series Goes Official with Hasselblad Cameras

OnePlus has officially announced the OnePlus 9 series, which has two devices — the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. Both phones have a camera system that Hasselblad helped develop, improving the color science of the phones.

OnePlus 9 Series

The OnePlus 9 Pro is the flagship in the OnePlus 9 series that sports a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz Fluid AMOLED display with an LTPO panel, which means the refresh rate can go all the way down to 1Hz. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

OnePlus 9 Pro

In terms of camera, the 9 Pro packs a quad-camera setup on the back — 48MP Sony IMX789 main with OIS + 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra-wide + 8MP 3.3x telephoto with OIS + 2MP monochrome camera. As for taking selfies, the phone comes with a 16MP front-facing camera.

With the help of Hasselblad, the camera app comes with a dedicated Hasselblad Pro Mode which will help you fine-tune your photos for a natural look and feel. The phone is capable of taking 12-bit RAW photos. OnePlus also mentioned that the ultra-wide sensor has a reduced distortion near the edges to 1%, while the typical ultra-wide lens has 10-20% distortion.

The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65T wired charging and also 50W wireless charging. However, you’ll have to buy a separate wireless charger in order to achieve the 1-100% charge in 43 minutes result. The phone still runs on OxygenOS based on Android 11, not ColorOS like the Chinese version.

OnePlus 9

As for the OnePlus 9, it has a smaller 6.55-inch Full HD+ 120Hz Fluid AMOLED flat display. It doesn’t have the same LTPO panel as the Pro model. The phone is also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

As for the camera, the phone has a triple-camera setup, basically minus the telephoto lens from the Pro model and the main camera is a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor. It has the same 16MP front-facing shooter for taking selfies.

The OnePlus 9 also packs a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65T wired charging. For the first time, the non-Pro model supports wireless charging, though it’s only 15W. The phone also runs on OxygenOS based on Android 11.

OnePlus Watch

Additionally, OnePlus has also announced the OnePlus Watch, which packs a 1.39-inch OLED display with 326ppi resolution. The watch comes in a single 46mm size and features sapphire glass protection. It offers features such as tracking for over 110 sporting activities, 5ATM + IP68 water and dust resistance, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation tracking, and sleep and stress monitoring. OnePlus claims that the watch up to two weeks of battery life and it also supports Warp Charge.

At the moment, the launch date of the OnePlus 9 series and the OnePlus Watch in Malaysia remains unknown. Stay tuned as we will keep you posted.
