The smartphone market has been pushing larger displays for years, but nubia is taking the idea a step further with the nubia Neo 5 Max 5G. Instead of simply making another large-screen smartphone, nubia calls it a “PadPhone” — a device designed to combine the portability of a phone with the gaming experience of a tablet.
The Neo 5 Max 5G stands out with its massive 7.5-inch display, a large cooling system, REDMAGIC-derived gaming controls, and a 7,100mAh battery. It is positioned primarily towards gamers who want a bigger display without moving to a dedicated gaming tablet.
A 7.5-inch Display Built for Gaming
The biggest talking point of the nubia Neo 5 Max 5G is undoubtedly its display.
It comes with a 7.5-inch 1,280 × 2,664 display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,000 nits peak brightness. According to nubia, this makes it the largest screen in its segment, with 27% more display area compared to the Neo 5 5G.
However, the larger display isn’t simply about making everything bigger.
For gaming, particularly FPS titles, the 7.5-inch panel provides an expanded vertical field of view. This means players can potentially see more of the game environment without having to constantly adjust their perspective.
nubia also claims that enemy outlines can appear up to 40% larger, which could make it easier to identify and lock onto targets during gameplay.
The display uses an 18.7:9 aspect ratio, which nubia says was developed based on eye-tracking data from more than 1,000 mobile gamers. It also features software-based eye-care functions such as Night Mode, Reading Mode and Ambient Light Adapt, alongside hardware-level low-blue-light and flicker-free certification.
REDMAGIC-Derived Gaming Controls
While the larger screen provides more room to play, nubia has also equipped the Neo 5 Max 5G with features aimed specifically at gamers.
The phone comes with shoulder triggers featuring REDMAGIC-derived touch algorithms, with a 990Hz touch sampling rate and claimed hardware response latency of just 4.7ms.
For games that benefit from additional controls, the shoulder triggers can be mapped to different functions, giving players physical touch points without relying entirely on the touchscreen.
The phone also comes with a high-precision gyroscope designed to improve rotational controls and reduce data transmission latency.
Another interesting feature is the touch system’s ability to remain responsive even when fingers are wet or oily. An AI touch algorithm is designed to block accidental inputs while maintaining responsiveness.

Large-screen gaming phones can generate plenty of heat during extended sessions, so cooling is another major part of the Neo 5 Max 5G’s design.
nubia claims the device has a 30,000mm²-plus heat dissipation area, which it positions as the largest in its price class. The thermal architecture is said to improve heat dissipation efficiency by up to 140%.
The cooling system combines a dual-layer capillary vapour chamber with a 3D raised VC panel, allowing heat to move away from the internal components more efficiently.
In nubia’s testing, one hour of high-FPS MLBB gaming with extreme graphics resulted in a reported peak temperature of 38.4°C, with stable frame rates and no slowdown during the test.
Of course, actual temperatures will vary depending on the game, ambient temperature, network conditions, and software version, but the cooling hardware is clearly one of the Neo 5 Max 5G’s key selling points.
7,100mAh Battery for Longer Sessions
The large chassis also gives nubia room for a substantial 7,100mAh dual-cell battery.
The company lists up to 13.4 hours of gaming, 14.1 hours of video playback, 25.7 hours of music playback through the speakers, and up to 56.4 hours of 5G calling under its stated testing conditions.
It also supports 45W fast charging, alongside bypass charging and 10W reverse charging.
One particularly interesting feature is its 5% Extreme Mode. Even with just 5% battery remaining, nubia claims the phone can still provide up to 22.9 minutes of gaming or 40 hours of standby under its specified conditions.
For gamers who frequently find themselves playing away from a charger, the combination of the large battery and bypass charging should make the Neo 5 Max 5G particularly interesting.
Dolby Atmos Audio
Gaming isn’t only about what you see and how quickly you react. Audio also plays an important role, especially in competitive games.
The Neo 5 Max 5G comes with dual speakers and Dolby Atmos, with nubia claiming up to 300% larger volume. The system is designed to provide more immersive gaming audio and help with audio-based positioning.
Demi and AI Gaming Features
Beyond the hardware, nubia has included its Demi 2.0 companion and AI-focused gaming tools.
Through the Game Assistant, users can access features such as Gaming Coach, which provides real-time coaching and combat status reports, as well as a Gaming Chatbot that can answer gameplay-related questions.
Demi Auto-Chat can also read messages, understand the context, and respond on the user’s behalf. These features are integrated into AI Game Space 5.0, which provides a gaming-focused interface and additional tools.
Hardware and Specifications
Under the hood, the nubia Neo 5 Max 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7100, featuring Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz.
The Malaysian model reviewed here comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the specifications also list a higher memory configuration. It runs MyOS 16 based on Android 16.
For photography, the phone has a 50MP autofocus main camera paired with a 2MP secondary camera, while selfies are handled by a 16MP front-facing camera.
Connectivity and features include dual SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C, and a Z-axis linear motor.

The 8GB + 512GB variant is scheduled to arrive in September 2026.
