HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, has officially announced five new Nokia phones at MWC 2018. Among these five phones, there is one feature phone — the reloaded Nokia 8110, one Android Oreo (Go Edition) phone — Nokia 1, and three Android One phones — the New Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco.
Nokia 8110
Reloading the legendary Nokia 8110, a 4G feature phone that comes with the iconic curved slider design. The phone features intuitive tactile mechanics, with slide to answer and end calls, as well as an addictive helicopter style spin on its axis. Additionally, it also supports VoLTE calling as well as hotspot sharing.
The phone now also comes with an app store, which lets you use apps like Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Powering the device is a Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform, and it also comes with a revamped version of Snake.
The Nokia 8110 will be available in Traditional Black and Banana Yellow. The phone will be available from May and will retail for a global average retail price of €79, excluding taxes and subsidies. Local pricing and product availability in Malaysia will be announced at a later date.
Nokia 1
The Nokia 1 is the company’s most affordable smartphone, running on Android Oreo (Go Edition). Android Oreo (Go Edition) is an optimized Android version for devices with 1GB RAM or less. Most Google apps such as Gmail, Google Assistant, and YouTube now have Go versions that use less RAM.
As for its specs, the Nokia 1 packs:
- 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels
- MediaTek MT6737M quad-core CPU
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB expandable storage
- 5MP rear camera with LED flash
- 2MP front camera
- 2,150mAh battery
The phone also comes with Xpress-on covers, which are the exchangeable covers that let you give your Nokia 1 a makeover.
Available from early April in Warm Red and Dark Blue, the Nokia 1 will retail for a global average retail price of $85, excluding taxes and subsidies. Xpress-on covers are available from $7.99 in Azure, Grey, Yellow, and Pink. Local pricing and product availability in Malaysia will be announced at a later date.
The New Nokia 6
The New Nokia 6 now packs more powerful performance and great new features over its predecessor. The phone still has the same premium built aluminum body. It sports the same 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
In terms of performance, it is now powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The company also stated that it now offers enhanced 16MP ZEISS optics, the selfie shooter is still an 8MP unit, though.
The New Nokia 6 packs a 3,000mAh battery, which now also supports fast charging. Available in three slick color blends: Black/Copper, White/Iron, and Blue/Gold, as well as two configurations of 3GB RAM/32GB storage, which will be available in early April, or 4GB RAM/64GB storage coming later, the New Nokia 6 will go on sale in early April and will retail for a global average retail price of €279 excluding taxes and subsidies. Nokia 7 Plus
The Nokia 7 Plus is the company’s first phone to have a 6-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage.
In terms of camera, the device comes with an enhanced Dual-Sight, dual rear sensors with ZEISS optics, combining a 12MP wide-angle primary camera and a secondary 13MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The Nokia Pro Camera has also made a comeback for manual controls. The company stated that all Nokia phones with ZEISS optics will get it, including old models like the Nokia 8.
Available in a choice of two color blends: Black/Copper and White/Copper, the Nokia 7 Plus will go on sale from early April and will retail for a global average retail price of €399, excluding taxes and subsidies. Local pricing and product availability in Malaysia will be announced at a later date.
Nokia 8 Sirocco
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is basically quite similar to the Nokia 7 Plus, except it has a curved edge-to-edge 5.5-inch 2K pOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. The phone has the same dual-camera setup as the 7 Plus — 12MP wide-angle lens + 13MP telephoto lens.
As the device now has a glass back body, it now supports Qi wireless charging to charge the 3,260mAh battery. Furthermore, its stainless steel frame is 2.5 times stronger than 6000 series aluminum.
Available from early April, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will retail for a global average retail price of €749, excluding taxes and subsidies. Local pricing and product availability in Malaysia will be announced at a later date.
Android One Program
During the launch, HMD Global said that all Nokia phones from Nokia 3 and above would be part of Android One program. It means that they will receive security updates up to 3 years after their launch.
