Motorola Mobility, a Lenovo company, today officially launched the Moto Z and Moto Z Play in Malaysia alongside with the Moto Mods.
The Moto Z was announced at Lenovo Tech World 2016 back in June with Moto Mods, while the Moto Z Play was announced at IFA 2016 in September. Both devices have a pretty identical design, and are compatible with the Moto Mods.
The Moto Z is a flagship device, sporting a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display covered by a Gorilla Glass. The Moto Z Play on the other hand, is a mid-range device with a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display.
Performance wise, the Moto Z is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. As for the Moto Z Play, powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
Even though the Moto Z is a flagship device, the device has a 13 MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, laser auto-focus and dual-LED flash. The Moto Z Play, however, has a 16MP f/2.0 rear camera with laser auto-focus and dual-tone dual-LED flash. We know the camera resolution isn’t everything, but it’s kind of weird to see that the Moto Z Play has a higher resolution camera than the Moto Z. Both devices have the same 5MP f/2.2 front-facing camera with selfie flash as well.
The flagship Moto Z body is just 5.2mm thin with water-repellant coating, and it has a 2,600mAh battery with TurboPower charger included for faster charging speed. However, the device doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack. The mid-range Moto Z Play is slightly thicker than the flagship Moto Z, but it has a bigger battery (3,510mAh) with TurboPower charging, and there’s a 3.5mm audio jack.
The company also introduced the Moto Mods for the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. These Moto Mods include JBL SoundBoost Speaker, Moto Insta-Share Projector, Incipio offGRID Power Pack, Hasselbald True Zoom Camera and Moto Style Shells.
The Moto Z and Moto Z Play are priced at RM2,699 and RM1,799 respectively, each purchase comes with a free Moto Style Shell in box.
