Moto G 2015 will have quite a big deal of water resistance

While Motorola’s 2nd generation Moto G is already quite a decent offering, it appears that they have a further ace in hand. A dummy set of the 3rd generation Moto G for 2015 has been spotted and interestingly there’s an IPX7 icon on it, which means that it will be more water resistant than ever before. Thank goodness for all of us clumsy folk!!

While the icon signifies that it is indeed resistant to rain, the IPX7 rating also means that it has been certified to be submerged under 1 full metre of water and for up to 30 minutes at a time. This is similar to HTC’s own RE Camera which is also water resistant out of the box without the use of extra casing. Of course, in practice this resistance is also subject to the brand’s faith as we’ve already seen how the Samsung Galaxy S5 and even the Apple Watch being discouraged from underwater use despite having sufficient resistance on paper. So for those wanting to take underwater selfies with your Moto G, you shouldn’t take the IPX7 rating as the be all and end all.

A quick recap on the Moto G’s known specs, it will mostly be an evolution of the same specs as the previous model with a couple of updated tweaks. The front display is still a 5-inch screen with 720p HD resolution and it will run on the newer quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage which can be further expanded with MicroSD.

Rumor has it that a higher-spec 2 GB RAM version would be introduced as well, but as of yet that is all speculation. In terms of photography, the camera will be getting an upgrade to a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front selfie snapper. This would make it a very decent player in terms of its imaging capabilities. It will be running on the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop straight out of the box and the battery is said to be of a 2,470 mAh capacity, which honestly speaking seems a little small. The Moto G will be announced next week on the 28th July and it likely would be acompanied by a couple of new models including the Moto X.
