2020 MINI John Cooper Works GP and MINI Cooper SE Officially Launched

MINI, a premium automaker celebrates its 61st birthday by launching two new cars in Malaysia — the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works GP and MINI Cooper SE.

MINI John Cooper Works GP

The MINI John Cooper Works GP is the fastest MINI ever, and there are 3,000 units globally, with 10 units available in Malaysia only. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 306hp and 450Nm torque. It’ll get you from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and a maximum top speed of 265km/h.

The car is available exclusively in Racing Grey metallic, with the roof and exterior mirror caps finished in the contrasting Melting Silver metallic. The hexagonal radiator grille, the inserts in the lower air intake, and the inside of the roof spoiler finished in high-gloss Chili Red leaves an aggressive impression for the MINI John Cooper Works GP.

The car comes with John Cooper Works sports seats in Leather Dinamica with silver side edges, red accentuation seams, a GP badge underneath the integrated headrests, and red belt straps. It also features the JCW leather steering wheel with aluminum shift pedals. There’s also the 3D printed passenger-side interior trim featuring a specific serial number for each one of the 3,000 units.

The John Cooper Works GP is fitted as standard with 18-inch lightweight forged wheels that weigh less than 9kg. The hub caps on the exclusive wheels bear the GP logo. The individual numbering with the numbers “0001” to “3000” is applied to the surfaces of the front wheel arch panels using a newly developed paint transfer process.

MINI Cooper SE

The MINI Cooper SE is an all-electric vehicle with a front-mounted electric motor, producing 135kW/184hp and 270Nm torque. The car has a top speed of 150km/h and 0 to 100km/h will take you 7.3 seconds. It comes with a 28.9kWh 12-module T-shaped battery that can also be recharged up to 80% within just two and a half hours with the MINI Wallbox Plus. Just like other electric cars, brake energy regeneration from decelerating the vehicle not only feeds back into the high-voltage battery but also allows for the vehicle to be driven using only a single pedal. MINI claims that the car has a driving range of up to 234km (WLTP) or 270km (NEDC).

The car comes with Matrix LED headlights and LED rear lights featuring the iconic Union Jack design. Along the sides, the New All-Electric MINI features adapted spats geometry, the E-Badge on the side scuttle, as well as aero-optimized mirror caps in either Black or Energetic Yellow. Interior and exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle function also equip the vehicle as standard. The new MINI rides on 17-inch wheels in the MINI Electric Power Spoke two-tone with run-flat tires.

The MINI Cooper SE is the first MINI model to feature a 5.5-inch Digital Instrument Cluster for smoother accessibility to key driving information. It comes with dual-zone air conditioning, MINI 12-colour ambient lighting, a head-up display, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and an 8.8-infotainment display with Apple CarPlay only.

Additionally, the car also comes equipped with the Park Assistant, front and rear Park Distance Control, Cruise Control with braking function, along with the Wired packages as standard.

Available in White Silver with Energetic Yellow pairing, the British Racing Green, and the Chili Red.
