MEIZU unveils smaller MEIZU m2

MEIZU has announced a scaled down variant of its m2 note, the MEIZU m2 (big shocker of a name there). With a very affordable price tag and decent mid-range specs, the MEIZU m2 aims to get you maximum value for money.

MEIZU m2 has its hardware grounded on chassis with a 5-inch IPS LCD screen of 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution which comes with AGC Dragontrail glass protection. In the belly of the beast is a MediaTek MT6735 chipset with a 1.3 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU, Mali T720 GPU and 2 GB RAM, nothing too spectacular but it gets the job done.

Onboard memory is 16 GB, expandable up to 128 GB via the MicroSD card slot. The m2 also features a surprisingly good 13 megapixel F/2.2 rear camera with Samsung sensor and a 5 megapixel F/2.0 front camera which should placate all the eager Instagram photographers out there.

MEIZU m2 runs Flyme 4.5 on top of Android 5.1 and offers dual SIM with LTE functionality, but one should be reminded that the second SIM shares its slot with the MicroSD card so you can’t have a dual identity ala Batman and additional storage space.

The mid-range smartphone is powered by a decently sized 2,500 mAh battery which according to MEIZU should last for up to 23 h of 2G calls or 12 h of Wi-Fi web browsing or 680 h of stand-by(though who keeps their phone on standby for 680 HOURS is beyond me).

MEIZU’s new scaled down offering will cost a very reasonable 699 Yuan in China ($112 or roughly RM 500) and will come in four different paint schemes – white, gray, blue and pink. All of which feature polycarbonate unibodies that look very similar to the already existing m1.
