A laptop can have impressive specifications on paper, but what matters more is how well it handles the tasks you actually do every day. For this review, we put the HP OmniBook X Flip through a different kind of test: a one-hour workday challenge.
Instead of running a series of synthetic benchmarks, we used the laptop for a mix of creative and productivity tasks that are increasingly common in modern workflows. This included editing images in Adobe Photoshop with Generative AI, using Microsoft Copilot for ideation, writing articles with ChatGPT, and sketching with Cocreate.
The idea is simple — if you only had an hour to get some meaningful work done, could the OmniBook X Flip keep up?
Built for a Flexible Workflow
The HP OmniBook X Flip is a 2-in-1 laptop, giving users the flexibility to switch between a traditional laptop setup and a tablet-style form factor. This is particularly useful for creative tasks where a touchscreen can offer a more natural way to interact with content.
Our review unit is the 14-kb0086TU model, which comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, Intel Graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 512GB SSD. Windows 11 Home comes pre-installed.
While this isn’t a configuration aimed at replacing a high-end workstation, the combination is designed around everyday productivity, creative work and AI-assisted tasks.
The 1-Hour Workday Challenge
Rather than spending the entire review running benchmarks, we wanted to see how the OmniBook X Flip performed when used like an actual work machine.
Our one-hour workflow consisted of four different tasks.
1. Adobe Photoshop with Generative AI
We started with Adobe Photoshop, including its Generative AI features.
Generative AI has become increasingly useful for everyday image editing, allowing users to remove unwanted objects, extend images, and generate new content without having to perform every step manually.
The OmniBook X Flip’s touchscreen display also gives Photoshop another interaction method. Being able to directly tap and interact with elements on screen can be useful when making quick adjustments, especially when the laptop is being used in a more tablet-like configuration.
For general image editing and AI-assisted adjustments, the 16GB of RAM provides a reasonable amount of headroom for multitasking alongside other applications.
2. Microsoft Copilot for Ideation
Next, we moved over to Microsoft Copilot.
Rather than treating Copilot as a replacement for the creative process, we used it primarily as an ideation tool. This included generating ideas, exploring different angles for content, and helping structure thoughts before turning them into a finished piece.
This is where having a modern laptop with AI-focused capabilities becomes more interesting. AI tools are increasingly becoming part of everyday workflows, whether you’re writing, researching, brainstorming or creating content.
The OmniBook X Flip is therefore not simply being used as a conventional laptop. It’s becoming a hub for several AI-assisted tools working alongside the user’s own workflow.
3. ChatGPT for Articles
From ideation, we moved on to writing.
ChatGPT was used to help develop article content, refine ideas, and turn information into a more structured piece of writing.
For a content-heavy workflow, having 16GB of LPDDR5X memory is useful because it allows multiple browser tabs and applications to remain open while switching between different tasks.
This also reflects how many people actually use their laptops today. A typical workflow isn’t just one application running at a time — you could have a browser with multiple tabs, a document, an image editor, and several AI tools open simultaneously.
The OmniBook X Flip handled this type of workflow without requiring us to constantly close applications just to move on to the next task.
4. Sketching with Cocreate
The final part of our challenge was more creative: sketching with Cocreate. This is where the OmniBook X Flip’s 2-in-1 design makes the most sense.
Being able to interact directly with the touchscreen makes sketching feel more immediate than using a traditional touchpad. Flip the display around, and the OmniBook X Flip can be used in a tablet-style configuration, making it better suited to drawing and visual ideation. What’s more? The OmniBook X Flip even comes with a stylus in the box, which can be magnetically attached at the side of the laptop.
For creators who frequently move between typing and sketching, this flexibility can be more useful than simply having a faster processor.
A 14-Inch Display Made for Productivity
The OmniBook X Flip features a 14-inch 16:10 2K display with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. The IPS panel supports multitouch and comes with edge-to-edge glass, micro-edge bezels, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
It also offers a claimed 400 nits brightness and 100% sRGB colour coverage, making it suitable for everyday productivity as well as creative work where colour reproduction matters.
The 16:10 aspect ratio is particularly useful for productivity. Compared with a traditional 16:9 display, the additional vertical space gives you more room to work with documents, websites and other content.
For our workflow, this meant being able to see more of an article or webpage without constantly scrolling.
A Camera That Goes Beyond Video Calls
The HP OmniBook X Flip also comes with a 5MP IR camera. The camera features HDR auto switch and temporal noise reduction, along with integrated dual-array digital microphones.
While the camera is obviously useful for video conferencing, the IR capability also supports Windows Hello-style facial recognition, giving users another convenient way to access the laptop.
The higher-resolution camera is also a useful addition for users who regularly participate in online meetings or create content where the built-in webcam is the most convenient option.
Battery and Charging
The OmniBook X Flip is equipped with a 59Wh battery and comes with a 65W USB Type-C GaN power adapter.
For our one-hour challenge, battery endurance was less about seeing how many hours the laptop could theoretically last and more about how it behaved while actively working through multiple applications and AI-assisted tasks.
The 65W USB Type-C GaN adapter is also worth noting. Its compact design makes it easier to carry around compared with some larger traditional laptop power bricks.
For users moving between home, office, school or creative spaces, portability can be just as important as raw performance.
So, Can It Survive a 1-Hour Workday?
The HP OmniBook X Flip’s biggest strength isn’t necessarily one individual component. It’s the way its hardware and form factor come together for a modern workflow.
During our one-hour challenge, we moved between Photoshop, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT and Cocreate — covering image editing, ideation, writing and sketching.
The Intel Core Ultra 5 325, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB SSD provide the foundation for this type of everyday workload, while the 2-in-1 design adds another layer of flexibility.
The touchscreen and convertible form factor are particularly useful for creative tasks, while the 14-inch 16:10 display remains practical for conventional laptop work.
Of course, this isn’t a laptop designed specifically for demanding workstation-level workloads. Users working extensively with complex 3D rendering, professional video production or other highly intensive applications may still want a machine with more powerful dedicated graphics.
But that’s not really the point of the OmniBook X Flip.
Instead, it is aimed at users who want one machine that can move between work, creativity and AI-assisted productivity without being tied to a traditional laptop format.
Final Words
Retailing at RM5,599, the HP OmniBook X Flip represents the direction laptops are increasingly moving towards: less about doing one specific task and more about adapting to the way we work.
Our one-hour workday challenge took us through image editing with Generative AI, brainstorming with Microsoft Copilot, article creation with ChatGPT, and sketching with Cocreate.
That combination highlights where the OmniBook X Flip makes the most sense. It’s a versatile productivity machine that combines a conventional laptop experience with the flexibility of a touchscreen 2-in-1.
For users who spend their day jumping between documents, AI tools, creative applications, and visual work, that flexibility could be more valuable than simply chasing higher benchmark numbers.
The real takeaway from our one-hour challenge? The OmniBook X Flip isn’t trying to be everything for everyone — it’s designed to be a flexible everyday machine for the way modern work is increasingly done.
