HONOR has brought its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Magic9 Pro Max, to Sepang International Circuit, where it was used alongside professional photography equipment to capture high-speed motorsport action.

The smartphone made an appearance in the dedicated photography area at the circuit on 5 October, just days after its official launch in China on 28 September. The showcase also marked one of the first public demonstrations of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max’s imaging capabilities in Malaysia.

Motorsport photography is one of the more demanding environments for capturing fast-moving subjects, with racing cars regularly exceeding 300km/h. Professional photographers typically rely on large telephoto lenses and dedicated cameras to track the action and capture sharp, detailed images.

Against this backdrop, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max was seen being used alongside professional camera equipment at Sepang International Circuit. According to a photographer present at the venue, the results were better than expected.

“When I saw someone using a smartphone to capture the race, I assumed he was just shooting for fun. But after seeing the results, I was genuinely surprised by how sharp and detailed the images were,” said the photographer.

The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max also marks the 10th anniversary of the HONOR Magic series. HONOR describes the smartphone as the “biggest upgrade” in the history of the Magic series, with the device featuring a dual 200MP ARRI cinematic imaging system.

The imaging system places particular emphasis on telephoto performance and high-speed image capture, which are among the key capabilities HONOR is highlighting with the new flagship.

Following its launch in China, the HONOR Magic series also recorded strong early demand. The company said it secured the top spot among new Android flagship devices on its first day of sales, while sales increased by 194% within the first 30 minutes compared to the previous generation.

However, HONOR has yet to announce the Malaysian availability or launch details for the Magic9 Pro Max.

The trackside demonstration comes as flagship smartphones increasingly compete in more specialised areas of mobile photography, including long-range zoom and high-speed image capture, beyond everyday photography.
