Unboxing & First Impressions: HONOR 9X

HONOR 9X Unboxing & First Impressions_1

Introduction

This is the HONOR 9X, a mid-range device that HONOR Malaysia is going to launch on November 21st. Thankfully, we managed to get the review unit before the launch. Without further ado, here’s the unboxing and first impressions of the HONOR 9X.

Unboxing

The phone comes in the same white HONOR box, similar design to the rest of the HONOR smartphones in 2019. As our unit isn’t the final retail unit, there are some items like the quick start guide and warranty card missing in the box. The box contains the phone itself, SIM ejector tool, TPU case, 5V/2A charging brick, and USB-A to USB-C cable.

First Impressions

First thing first, yes, the HONOR 9X does come with Google Mobile Services (GMS), meaning you’ll get Google Play Store and other Google Play Services out of the box.

It sports a 6.59-inch Full HD+ IPS HONOR FullView display with a 91% screen-to-body ratio. There’s no notch nor camera cutout, this is because the 16MP selfie shooter is now a pop-up camera.

The back of the phone has curves on both sides, which improves the overall ergonomics. Unfortunately, our unit is the Midnight Black variant, which doesn’t have the glimmering pearl X effect like the one on Sapphire Blue.

It packs a triple-camera setup on the back — 2MP depth sensor + 48MP f/1.8 main camera + 8MP ultra-wide lens. The rear camera also supports the AIS Super Night Mode feature for a better low-light photo.

The HONOR 9X runs on EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9, which comes with bloatware. Thankfully, you can uninstall all the apps if you don’t use it. The phone packs a Kirin processor with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage. By the way, I notice that the phone doesn’t actually support 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.

The HONOR 9X is set to launch in Malaysia on November 21st. Unfortunately, the pricing remains unknown. Stay tuned as we will be attending the launch and the full review is now in the progress.
