GWM Malaysia has reached another major milestone in its regional expansion journey with its first CKD (Completely Knocked Down) export of the GWM WEY G9 to Thailand. The shipment marks an important step in strengthening cross-border collaboration within ASEAN, while reinforcing the company’s focus on New Energy Vehicle (NEV) development and regional manufacturing integration.

This export follows the successful local assembly of the GWM WEY G9 in Malaysia and represents the next phase of GWM’s strategy to establish a stronger regional supply chain and production ecosystem. By exporting CKD units to Thailand, GWM is demonstrating confidence in Malaysia’s growing capabilities in high-value vehicle assembly, technology transfer, and scalable manufacturing.

The move is also expected to enhance local vendor development, improve manufacturing competitiveness, and further position Malaysia as a key hub within GWM’s ASEAN operations.

Like the locally assembled model, the WEY G9 units destined for Thailand are built on GWM’s dedicated luxury NEV platform and supported by the brand’s global R&D network. Each unit undergoes local quality assurance processes to ensure consistent build standards.

For the Thai market, the GWM WEY G9 will bring several advanced features, including the brand’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system, a suite of intelligent safety technologies, and a premium cabin designed to suit both family and business use.

Meanwhile, GWM’s CKD programme in Malaysia continues to expand through deeper localisation efforts, improved technical expertise, and talent development. These initiatives not only strengthen Malaysia’s NEV capabilities but also support GWM’s long-term plans for sustainable growth across the region.
