Dyson has unveiled the CameraJet, a new toothbrush designed to combine brushing, flossing and mouth-rinsing into a single device. Revealed by James Dyson in Paris, the Dyson CameraJet uses a built-in camera, machine learning and a precision fluid jet to identify gaps between teeth and target them while users brush.

The new toothbrush is the result of six years of development involving 661 Dyson engineers, 38 patents and collaboration with dental professionals and the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry.
According to Dyson, the CameraJet was developed to address a common issue with daily oral care: missed spaces between teeth. The company says these interdental gaps are areas where plaque can accumulate, while many people do not floss as regularly as recommended.
Camera identifies gaps between teeth

The main feature of the Dyson CameraJet is its 100,000-pixel macro lens camera, which works with Dyson’s Gap Optical Targeting technology.
The camera scans 28 live images per second and uses machine learning to identify, track and predict gaps between teeth in real time. When a gap is detected, the system can trigger a precision jet of mouthrinse within 100 milliseconds.
Dyson says the machine learning system was trained using more than 470,000 dental images collected during development, with the CameraJet running on 16 million lines of code.
The camera also uses lighting and camera strobing at 257Hz, designed to work alongside the movement of the brush head. A target lens further expands the camera’s field of view to support predictive gap detection.
The company describes this as a way to combine brushing and precision flossing into the same routine, rather than requiring users to switch between separate oral-care devices.
Conical jet targets plaque

The precision jet uses a different approach from traditional needle-type water flossers.
Dyson’s engineers spent years developing the profile of the jet, using a proprietary proxy plaque created through a five-year collaboration with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry.
According to Dyson, traditional needle-shaped jets can pierce through plaque without completely removing it. Its CameraJet instead uses a broader, conical-shaped spray designed to sweep across and remove plaque while operating at a lower pressure.
The company says this design is intended to be gentler on the gums and enamel while providing wider coverage.
Compact anti-gravity mouthrinse tank

The CameraJet features a 12.5ml mouthrinse tank designed to dispense the recommended amount of liquid needed to clean the gaps during a session.
Dyson has also developed an anti-gravity tank incorporating a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber. The system is designed to deliver controlled jets regardless of the toothbrush’s orientation.
This is particularly useful when cleaning the back of the teeth, where the toothbrush may be held horizontally. Unlike conventional designs that use a straw inside a tank and can potentially draw in air when tilted, Dyson says its system is designed to eliminate air pockets and prevent inconsistent or empty jet bursts.
The mouthrinse is therefore integrated into the brushing process rather than requiring a separate mouth-rinsing step.
Dual-bristle brush head
The Dyson CameraJet comes with a dual-bristle brush head designed around the different surfaces of the teeth.
The brush head combines firmer inner bristles for surface stains with softer outer bristles intended to clean along the gumline. Dyson says the contoured design is intended to reach more of the tooth surface while helping to remove plaque.
A sonic dampener is also built into the brush head for acoustics and comfort.
Each brush head has an integrated RFID tag, allowing the CameraJet to recognise the attached brush head, track the number of cleaning sessions and alert users when replacement is required.
Dyson will also offer a sensitive brush head variant designed for users who require a gentler brushing experience.
Variable sonic oscillation aims to prevent bristle stalling

The CameraJet also introduces Dyson’s variable sonic oscillation technology.
During development, Dyson engineers examined slow-motion footage of existing sonic toothbrushes and found that some bristles could stall when pressed against the tooth surface, particularly in harder-to-reach areas.
Dyson’s solution changes the angle of oscillation as users brush, helping to keep the bristles moving.
The brush head moves nearly 1,000 times per second, while Dyson says its variable sonic oscillation removed up to 69% more plaque than market-leading premium electric toothbrushes in hard-to-reach areas during laboratory testing.
Dyson introduces dedicated toothpaste and mouthrinse

Alongside the CameraJet, Dyson has developed its own toothpaste and mouthrinse as part of what it calls a complete dental system.
The toothpaste uses a non-foaming formulation without SLS, a common foaming agent. Dyson says reducing foam helps keep the camera’s view clear and supports the Gap Optical Targeting system.
The mouthrinse is also formulated to produce low levels of foam for use with the precision jet. Its antibacterial formulation is designed to help reduce bacteria associated with bad odour and freshen breath, while glycerin is included to help prevent mouth dryness.
Both products contain sodium fluoride, alongside phosphates and xylitol, with the formulations designed to support enamel and target the bacterial sources associated with plaque and tartar.
The toothpaste and mouthrinse will be offered in Ginger Mint and Spearmint flavours, while a Peppermint Sensitive toothpaste variant will also be available for users with sensitive teeth.
Live camera view through the MyDyson app
The Dyson CameraJet is connected through 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with the built-in camera also functioning as an endoscope.
Through the MyDyson app, users can access a live view while brushing, effectively allowing them to see what the camera sees.
The app also provides guided cleaning, how-to videos, brushing and flossing insights, coverage mapping and personalised feedback. Users can see areas they are cleaning effectively and identify areas they may be missing, helping them improve their brushing technique over time.
The Dyson CameraJet can operate in auto-detect or manual jetting modes, while brushing intensity can also be adjusted according to the user’s preference.
Dyson says the camera is only active during live viewing or automatic jetting. Images are not recorded or stored on the toothbrush or in the cloud, with the company stating that images remain private to the user.
Docking station refills the toothbrush in three seconds

A dedicated charging dock is included with the Dyson CameraJet.
The docking station can refill the toothbrush at the touch of a button in around three seconds, while also charging the device between cleaning sessions. It provides an upright storage position for the toothbrush and is designed to keep the device ready for daily use.
A travel case is included as part of the Dyson Dental System, allowing the CameraJet to be used at home or while travelling.
Six years of development
The Dyson CameraJet has been developed over six years, with 661 engineers involved in the project.
The company has filed 38 patents relating to the Dyson CameraJet and worked with 30 dental professionals globally during its development.
The machine learning system was trained using more than 470,000 dental images, while Dyson also developed its own proxy plaque to allow engineers to test and refine the precision jet without requiring a clinical trial for every design iteration.
Dyson’s announcement also points to research highlighting the challenges of maintaining recommended oral-care routines. The company says nine in 10 people do not floss as regularly as they should, while people spend an average of just 45 seconds brushing their teeth, below the commonly recommended two minutes.
Dyson CameraJet Malaysia availability

The Dyson CameraJet forms part of the company’s new Dyson Dental System, bringing together the CameraJet toothbrush, dedicated toothpaste and mouthrinse, charging and refilling dock, brush heads and travel case.
For Malaysia, Dyson says the launch date is subject to market availability, with pricing yet to be announced. Consumers in Malaysia can register their interest ahead of the local launch through Dyson’s website.
