ASUS ROG Phone 5 Series Goes Official

Not long ago, we reviewed the ASUS ROG Phone 3. Guess what? The ASUS ROG Phone 5 series is now official! This time around, there are three devices in the ROG Phone 5 series — ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro, ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. Basically, the differences between these three variants are minimal.

The ASUS ROG Phone 5 series sports a 6.78-inch Full HD+ 144Hz/1ms Super AMOLED display with HDR10+ certified. Powering all the phones is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, which also debuts Qualcomm Game Quick Touch for players to experience up to a 20% increase in touch responsiveness and lower latency, 35% increase in GPU performance, and 25% in CPU performance.

The ROG Phone 5 series also comes with a 6,000mAh battery with 65W HyperCharge. All phones now have features for gamers, such as:

• Upgraded AirTrigger 5 control system
• AeroActive Cooler 5 features two extra physical buttons for a gaming-like console experience
• 10 different motion controls
• Hidden rear touch sensors on the back cover, provide L2/R2 trigger functions
• GamerFX audio system incorporates symmetrical seven-magnet dual speakers for truly balanced stereo sound effects with Dirac HD Sound

In terms of camera, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 series packs a triple-camera setup on the back — 64MP (Main camera Sony IMX686) + 13MP (125° ultrawide-angle lens) + 5MP (Macro). As for taking selfies, all phones have a 24MP front-facing camera.

Here comes the differences between the three variants. Firstly, both the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate and ROG Phone 5 Pro come with the ROG Vision, a rear matrix display. The ROG Phone 5 Pro features a color ROG Vision display, while ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has a monochrome version.

ROG Vision can display a variety of cool animations that show whether the phone is charging if there’s an incoming call, whether X Mode is enabled, and more. Owners can even create custom animations to make their phones even more personal.

The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has 18GB LPDDR5 RAM, while the ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 have up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM. As for the internal storage, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate and ROG Phone 5 Pro have 512GB UFS 3.1 storage, while the ROG Phone 5 has up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

At the moment, only the regular ASUS ROG Phone 5 will be available for pre-order from 11th to 25th March. Those who pre-ordered the phone will receive a free Kunai 3 GamePad worth RM499. The ASUS ROG Phone 5 series will be available from April (ROG Phone 5) and May (ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate).
