CES 2022: ASUS ROG Laptops Get Refreshed

Besides the ASUS ROG Flow Z13, ASUS ROG has also officially unveiled the refreshed Zephyrus Duo 16, Zephyrus G14, and the Strix lineup. All the laptops mentioned will be running on Windows 11 and be equipped with the latest Intel and AMD processors, paired with the latest NVIDIA graphics cards.

For those who do not know, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a laptop with a second screen built into where the keyboard will usually sit. The second screen adds extra screen space for productivity or for multitasking during gaming sessions. ASUS had revised the hinge for the secondary hinge, which closes the gap between two displays, giving the user an impression of a bigger screen.

The Zephyrus Duo 16 will run on Windows 11 and is powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 6980HX CPU with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile GPU at 165W for maximum performance. This beast also has liquid metal for better heat dissipation. The revised air intake also now intake 30% more air than last year’s model. The Zephyrus Duo also features a MUX switch.

There are two options for the main display. The first option is the ROG Nebula HDR display panel which has 512 LED dimming zones, capable of reaching 1100 nits of peak brightness for stunning levels of contrast and brightness. The ROG Nebula panel is a QHD, 16:10 panel that has a 165Hz refresh rate and is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio.

The second option is an exclusive display panel co-developed with BOE, called the Dual Spec panel. It can switch between 4K 120Hz and Full HD 240Hz, giving fellow gamers the option to choose depending on their usage requirements. The display features Pixel Acceleration for lightning-fast upscaling in Full HD mode for crystal clear images at competitive framerates.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 also features six speakers that include Dual-Force-Cancelling Woofers, Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, and two-way AI Noise Cancellation. However, the exterior of the laptop will remain more or less similar to last year’s model.

Three of these laptops mentioned are like brothers, they might have the same look and specs, but they are targeted to slightly different audiences.

As for the 2022 model, ASUS ROG had added a new host of improvements. The laptops will come with Windows 11 from the factory, powered with an AMD Ryzen 9 series CPU and AMD Radeon RX6600S mobile GPU. These laptops will also feature a MUX Switch and includes Liquid Metal for better thermal efficiency. These laptops are also updated to use the latest DDR5 memory, paired with a 1TB PCIe SSD for storage.

Both the G14 and G15 will feature their signature AniMe Matrix display which is now improved with more holes added during the milling process for more LEDs to shine through, making your personalized images even more defined. The laptops will be available in either two colorways, which are Eclipse Gray or Moonlight White, featuring a Prismatic Logo nameplate that is holographic.

In addition to that, these laptops will feature the ROG Nebula display, which offers 120Hz at QHD with 500nits of peak brightness, 100% coverage of DCI-P3 color gamut, and 3ms response time. The panel also supports Dolby Vision, Adaptive-Sync, and Pantone validation for extreme color accuracy. The display on these laptops is also 16:10 in aspect ratio and has thin bezels around for a 91% screen-to-body ratio.

There is also Dolby Atmos, a 3D mic array with two-way AI Noise Cancellation, and a blazing-fast WiFi 6E equipped within these laptops.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR and Strix G

Both the SCAR and G variants are updated with Windows 11 Pro, a high-refresh display, and ROG Intelligent Cooling with liquid metal for better cooling. The Strix SCAR and its variants will also be equipped with the latest 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile GPU, running at 150W, which is what the Strix is designed for. There is also a MUX Switch within the device and not to mention PCIe 4.0 for ultra-fast read and write speeds, complemented with DDR5 4,800MHz RAM memory for better and seamless multitasking.

The SCAR will be available in 15-inch and 17-inch models. There are three display options for the 15-inch: QHD 240Hz, Full HD 300Hz, and QHD 165Hz. Whereas the 17-inch display will be offered with either a QHD 240Hz or Full HD 360Hz. All SCAR models support Dolby Vision HDR, Adaptive-Sync with a 3ms response time.

As for both Strix G15 and G17, these two laptops are powered with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU at 150W for the best power output. Displays offered with the Strix G15 are a Full HD 300Hz and a QHD 165Hz display, while the G17 is offered with a Full HD 360Hz and a QHD 240Hz display options. All the Strix G models support Dolby Vision and come with a 3ms response rate with Adaptive-Sync. The Strix G15 and G17 will come in either Eclipse Gray, Volt Green, or Electro Punk.

All Strix models will come equipped with a quad-speaker design with Dolby Atmos spatial sound. There is also a two-way AI Noise Cancellation feature that filters background noise for ingoing and outgoing communication. Strix models will also come with a 90Wh battery with 100W USB Type-C charging capabilities.
