Apple has announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M6 chip, bringing improved CPU and GPU performance, enhanced on-device AI capabilities, faster wireless connectivity and up to 24 hours of battery life.

The new MacBook Pro is designed for students, business professionals, developers and content creators who require a powerful laptop for productivity and demanding workloads.

The Apple M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with both processors gaining two additional cores compared to their M5 counterparts. Apple claims the new GPU delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance, while on-device AI workloads can run up to 25% faster than on the previous generation.

For users upgrading from a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip, Apple claims the new model can deliver up to 11 times faster graphics performance and up to 13 times faster AI performance in selected workloads.

The M6 also incorporates Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and a dual 16-core Neural Engine to accelerate AI-related tasks, including image generation, image upscaling and large language model processing. These capabilities also support Apple Intelligence features, allowing compatible AI workloads to run directly on the device with a focus on user privacy.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard, configurable up to 32GB, alongside memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple says these improvements help users handle multitasking, large files and demanding creative applications more efficiently.

Battery life is another key highlight, with the laptop rated for up to 24 hours of use on a single charge. Apple says this represents up to four additional hours for users upgrading from an M1-based MacBook Pro and up to 14 additional hours for those moving from Intel-based models.

The laptop retains its 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, which offers up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A nano-texture display option is also available to reduce reflections and glare in challenging lighting conditions.

For video calls and content creation, the MacBook Pro features a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a studio-quality three-microphone array and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.

Connectivity has also been upgraded with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Available ports include HDMI, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SDXC card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptop supports up to two external displays and fast charging, reaching 50% in about 30 minutes with a compatible high-wattage USB-C power adapter.

The new MacBook Pro runs macOS 27, which introduces updated Apple Intelligence capabilities and Siri AI features, alongside refinements to the operating system’s interface and productivity tools.

Apple has also highlighted the device’s environmental credentials. The new MacBook Pro contains 45% recycled materials overall, including 100% recycled aluminium in its enclosure, 100% recycled cobalt in its battery and, for the first time in an Apple product, 100% recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors.
