Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, bringing a new form factor to the iPhone lineup alongside a redesigned version of iOS tailored specifically for its folding display.
The iPhone Duo features a titanium frame and a 7.6-inch folding main display paired with a 5.4-inch outer cover screen. Both displays use ProMotion technology and can reach up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, while sharing a 1.42:1 aspect ratio for a consistent viewing experience between the two screens.
The inner display also features a custom nano-texture finish designed to minimise reflections and reduce the visibility of the display crease. When folded, the outer screen provides a more traditional smartphone experience, while unfolding the device opens up a larger display for multitasking and other content.
For biometric authentication, Apple has brought Touch ID to the power button, rather than using Face ID. The iPhone Duo is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, while Ceramic Shield 2 protects the front and Ceramic Shield is used on the rear of the device.
Powering the iPhone Duo is Apple’s new 2nm A20 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. Despite the device measuring just 5.2mm thick when unfolded, Apple has integrated a custom vapour chamber directly onto the chip package to help manage heat during demanding workloads.
The camera setup consists of two 48MP rear cameras. The primary 48MP Fusion Main camera supports up to 2x optical-quality zoom, while the 48MP Ultra Wide camera adds macro photography capabilities. On the cover display, a 12MP Center Stage front camera handles selfies and video calls, while an under-display camera is integrated into the folding screen.
Apple has also adapted iOS 27 specifically for the iPhone Duo’s foldable form factor. The software introduces an adaptive user interface, with the Dynamic Island and dock controls positioned towards the side to make better use of the available vertical space.
The foldable iPhone can also display two pages of the Home Screen simultaneously and supports split-view multitasking, allowing users to run multiple apps side by side on the larger inner display. Apple is also set to add Apple Pencil support in a future update, further expanding the device’s potential for productivity and creative tasks.
Connectivity is handled by Apple’s custom C2 cellular modem, which supports mmWave 5G, alongside the N1 chip that provides Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.
Despite its slim design, Apple claims the iPhone Duo can deliver up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, or up to 44 hours when using the outer screen. The device also supports fast wired charging, reaching 50% capacity in just 20 minutes.
The iPhone Duo will be available in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. In Malaysia, pricing starts at RM9,499 for the 256GB model, while the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB variants are priced at RM10,499, RM12,499 and RM15,499 respectively.
Malaysians will be able to pre-order the iPhone Duo from 8pm on Friday, 16 October, with official availability beginning on Friday, 23 October. Malaysia is among more than 70 countries and regions included in the first wave of availability.
