Apple has officially announced the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing a smaller Dynamic Island, the new 2nm-based A20 Pro chip, an upgraded vapour chamber cooling system and a variable-aperture main camera. The new Pro models also offer up to 2TB of storage and longer battery life, with both models set to arrive in Malaysia later this month.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max retain the familiar 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively, but now feature a smaller Dynamic Island. Despite its reduced size, the Dynamic Island can accommodate up to three Live Activities simultaneously, providing users with quick access to information without taking up as much space on the display.

The new iPhone 18 Pro series is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. The chip features a six-core CPU with two super cores, alongside a seven-core GPU that delivers up to 40% faster graphics performance. It is also equipped with dual 32-core Neural Engines for AI-related workloads and a 50% increase in memory bandwidth.

Apple has also upgraded the thermal management system to help the A20 Pro sustain its performance for longer periods. The next-generation vapour chamber is three times larger than the one used in its predecessor. The new design takes inspiration from Apple’s M-series chips, with the silicon and memory attached directly to the vapour chamber to improve heat transfer and thermal efficiency.

On the photography front, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max feature a 48MP main camera with a variable aperture that can adjust up to f/4.0. The system also introduces manual shutter speed control, giving users greater control over exposure when capturing photos. According to Apple, the variable-aperture camera can allow 50% more light to reach the sensor in darker conditions, potentially improving low-light photography. The 18MP front-facing camera is retained for selfies and video calls.

Battery life has also received an upgrade, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max offering up to 45 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours. These figures apply to the eSIM-only models. Both devices support fast charging, reaching up to 50% battery capacity in just 15 minutes.

On the software side, the new iPhone 18 Pro models ship with iOS 27, bringing updated Siri AI capabilities and Apple Intelligence features. The software is designed to work more closely with third-party applications while also improving synchronisation between devices.
