Apple Announces iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Same as last year, Apple also announced the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max after the vanilla models. The new Pro models come with a faster GPU, improved camera hardware, and a ProMotion display.

Yup, the new Pro models now come with a ProMotion display, which is a term for high refresh rate display by Apple. Both phones can now go as low as 10Hz and as high as 120Hz, a feature that we were expecting for last year’s models.

The screen sizes are the same — 6.1-inch for the iPhone 13 Pro and 6.7-inch for the Pro Max model. Just like the vanilla models, the notch is also 20% smaller.

Powering both phones is the same A15 Bionic chip with two high-performance CPU cores and four high-efficiency ones. As for the GPU, the Pro models now get five GPU cores, instead of four in the vanilla models.

In terms of camera, the Pro models come with improved lenses, sensors, and image processing, but are still stuck with 12MP resolution. The main camera now has an impressive pixel size of 1.9µm and a brighter aperture of f/1.5, which offers 2.2x more light when in low-light conditions. The telephoto camera has a new 77mm f/2.8 lens, now offering 3x optical zoom. Lastly, the ultrawide camera now comes with a 6-element f/1.8 lens and autofocus.

The new chipset also allows the phones to support ProRes videos. You can now record 4K@30fps videos and edit them right on the phone. Not to forget both phones also support Dolby Vision HDR at up to 4K@60fps.

Apple also stated that both Pro models come with better battery life — 1.5 hours longer for the 13 Pro and 2.5 hours longer for the 13 Pro Max. Both phones are available in four colors — Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue.
