Apple iPhone 12 and 12 Pro

Apple iPhone 12 Officially Announced

The wait is over! As mentioned earlier this month, the Apple iPhone 12 has finally announced at its October event! This time around, the company announced a total of four models — the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple iPhone 12

The Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are actually quite similar in terms of the specs, it’s just a matter of size. The regular 12 has a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2,532 x 1,170-pixel (460 ppi). As for the mini version, it has a smaller 5.4-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080-pixel (476 ppi). Yes, no more LCD panel and low-res screen for the non-Pro variant, and both provide the HDR viewing experience.

Both models feature a new flat-edge design with an aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure and combined with the Ceramic Shield front cover, Apple claims that it increases the drop performance by 4x. Both models also support 5G, which is made possible by the latest A14 Bionic chip. The A14 Bionic chip is the first 5nm chip in a smartphone and Apple claims that it has the fastest CPU and GPU by up to 50 percent compared to the fastest competing smartphone chips.

Both models have a dual-camera setup on the back — 12MP ultra-wide + 12MP f/1.6 main, which is now capable of shooting HDR video with Dolby Vision at 30fps. Its front-facing TrueDepth camera is a 12MP f/2.2 unit, and for the first time, Apple enables Deep Fusion on all cameras, including the TrueDepth camera.

Both phones have an industry-leading IP68 rating for water resistance up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes and are protected against everyday spills, including coffee and soda.

Apple also announced MagSafe, which improves wireless charging for a better, more efficient experience, and introduces an ecosystem of easy-to-attach accessories that beautifully complement iPhone 12 models. It delivers a unique experience to iPhone, featuring an array of magnets around the wireless charging coil, optimized for alignment and efficiency, that perfectly connects to iPhone every time.

MagSafe chargers efficiently provide up to 15W of power, while still accommodating existing Qi-enabled devices. Charging solutions include the MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo Charger for use with iPhone and Apple Watch, as well as new silicone, leather, and clear cases that easily snap onto the back of iPhone, and a leather wallet. Customers can also expect innovative MagSafe accessories from third-party manufacturers. Apple now only includes a USB-C to Lightning Cable in the box, without the charging brick.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available in 5 colors — White, Black, Blue, Green, and (PRODUCT) RED. Below are the prices in Malaysia, the launch date remains unknown:

And here comes the Pro variant, which is available in two sizes. Like the non-Pro variant, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have an OLED Super Retina XDR display, but in larger sizes. Apple has increased the screen sizes for both models over the predecessors, the iPhone 12 Pro now has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen. Sadly, no 120Hz refresh rate.

Both models also come with the Ceramic Shield front cover, but with a stainless steel frame. They are still 5G-enabled and IP68-rated for water resistance up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes and are protected against everyday spills, including coffee and soda.

Both phones are powered by the latest A14 Bionic chip and Apple has increased the base storage option to 128GB. Now you get 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options.

Apple also announced the HomePod mini, the smaller version of the original HomePod that delivers impressive sound, the intelligence of Siri to get things done, and a smart home experience that offers comfort and convenience without complexity.

It is designed to work with Apple Music, podcasts, radio stations from iHeartRadio, radio.com, and TuneIn, and in the coming months, popular music services including Pandora and Amazon Music.

The HomePod mini will be available in white and space gray at a great price of just $99. At the moment, we don’t think Apple will be selling it in Malaysia.
