Apple Updates iPad Pro with M2 Chip

Besides the new iPad, Apple also updated the iPad Pro models with the new M2 chip, the same chip powering the new MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro.

The biggest change here is the new M2 chip, which features an 8-core CPU (4x performance cores + 4x efficiency cores) and a 10-core GPU, along with a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claims the M2 chip is 15% faster than M1 in terms of CPU performance, 35% faster in graphics performance, 40% better machine learning performance, and 50% greater memory bandwidth.

The new M2 chip also enables users to capture ProRes video for the first time and transcode ProRes footage up to 3x faster. The camera hardware is the same as its predecessor though.

The new iPad Pro also comes with an updated touchscreen and iPadOS 16, Apple now adds hover support with the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. The Pencil is now detected up to 12mm above the display, which can enable additional functionality within apps. This functionality will be available in first-party as well as third-party applications.

The new iPad Pro also features improved wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E, which provides downloads up to 2.4Gb/s, 2x faster than previous models. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 5G now support more 5G networks around the world.

Like its predecessor, the new iPad Pro is also available in two sizes — 11-inch and 12.9-inch:
