Apple iMac with M6 Unveiled with Faster Performance, Enhanced AI and Seven Colours
Apple has announced the new iMac powered by its M6 chip, bringing improved CPU and GPU performance, enhanced on-device AI capabilities and faster connectivity to its 24-inch all-in-one desktop computer. The new model also runs macOS 27 and retains the slim design and colourful finish of the iMac lineup.

The new iMac is designed for everyday productivity, creative workloads and AI-powered tasks, catering to families, students, content creators and small businesses.
The new iMac features an M6 chip with up to a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with both configurations offering two additional cores compared to the previous generation. The GPU also integrates Neural Accelerators into each core to improve performance in graphics-intensive workloads, including photo editing and gaming.
According to Apple, the new iMac delivers up to 1.5 times faster performance in productivity applications compared to the M4 model, while graphics performance can reach up to twice the speed in supported workloads. Compared to the M1 iMac, performance in applications such as Microsoft Excel can be up to 2.5 times faster, while graphics performance in tasks such as photo editing can be up to 3.3 times faster.

The M6 chip also brings improvements to AI processing, with a dual 16-core Neural Engine and memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple claims that on-device AI performance can be up to five times faster than the M4 model, making it better suited to running AI models locally while keeping data on the device.
For users upgrading from an Intel-based iMac, Apple claims the new model can deliver up to 18 times faster performance in certain workloads.
The new iMac runs macOS 27, which introduces the next generation of Apple Intelligence alongside Siri AI. The updated Siri is designed to offer more conversational interactions, find information across messages, emails and photos, and perform actions across supported applications.
Siri AI is also integrated into Spotlight, allowing users to search for information and ask follow-up questions. Visual Intelligence lets users interact with content displayed on the screen, while writing tools can help users compose and edit text across supported applications.
Apple Intelligence also brings additional capabilities to applications such as Safari, Photos and Shortcuts. These include organising browser tabs by topic, monitoring website changes, using AI-assisted photo editing tools and creating automations through natural-language descriptions.
The iMac also supports third-party AI applications optimised for Apple silicon, including LM Studio and Topaz Studio.

The new iMac retains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, featuring a resolution designed to deliver sharp visuals, 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide colour gamut with more than one billion colours.
For video calls, the desktop features a 12MP Centre Stage camera that keeps users framed during calls. Desk View is also available to show an overhead view of the user’s workspace, which can be useful for demonstrations and presentations.
Its audio system comprises two pairs of force-cancelling woofers and two tweeters, with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support. A three-microphone array is included to complete the video conferencing experience.
The new iMac is available in seven colours: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. Colour-matched accessories are included, with users able to choose a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and either a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad. The accessories feature USB-C ports for charging.

Connectivity has been upgraded with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. An optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connection is also available, which Apple says can deliver up to 2.5 times faster wired networking performance than the previous generation.
The new iMac also offers SSD read and write speeds of up to twice those of its predecessor, helping applications launch faster and large files load more quickly.
Depending on the configuration, users can get up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports for connecting peripherals, external storage and docking stations. The desktop also supports up to two external 6K displays, providing additional screen space for demanding workflows.

The new Apple iMac with M6 will be available for pre-order from 29 October 2026 in Malaysia. Availability at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers is scheduled to begin on 6 November 2026.
In Malaysia, the model with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU starts at RM6,499 and RM6,299 with education savings, while the configuration with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU starts at RM7,499 and RM7,099 with education savings.
