All-New BMW 1 Series and X1 Officially Unveiled

BMW’s premium compact hatchback and crossover have arrived upon Malaysian shores. Both the BMW 1 Series and X1 were unveiled as the M135i xDrive and the X1 sDrive18i.

1 Series

The M135i xDrive is the sportier variant of the BMW’s third-generation 1 Series, it is redesigned on BMW’s front-wheel-drive platform, unlike its predecessor. The company’s progressive design language can be seen in both the exterior and interior of the car. The car features a distinctive kidney grille, Adaptive LED headlights on the front whereas, on the rear, there is a BMW’s signature L-shaped taillight and BMW M rear spoiler. The car also comes with newly designed 19-inch light-alloy wheels.

The 1 Series (M135i xDrive) packs a four-cylinder engine which is the latest iteration the BMW EfficientDynamics family and it is the group’s most powerful four-cylinder engine yet, it has a combined output of 306hp and a peak torque of 450Nm. It takes 4.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-100km/h and has a top speed of 250km/h. Besides that, superior advancements in connectivity and driver assistance systems complement the best driving pleasure. For the first time, its front-wheel-drive architecture shares its characteristics with BMW i, it has ARB technology that improves traction on the driven front axle. Besides that, the 1 Series features a newly developed Torsen limited-slip differential integrated into an eight-speed Steptronic Sports Transmission.

In the interior, the 1 Series (M135i xDrive) is spacious for both the front and rear passengers due to its wider and longer wheelbase. The interior is also upholstered with Leather Dakora and fitted with ‘Illuminated Boston” interior trim finishers. The car also features electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, two-zone automatic air conditioning, and BMW’s Individual Headliner Anthracite. The infotainment equipped in the 1 Series is BMW’s latest BMW Operating System 7.0 with a customizable 10.25-inch Instrument Display paired with a high-res 10.25-inch touch screen Control Display. There are a plethora of creature comfort features that comes with the 1 Series, like the BMW Digital Key, Apple Car Play, Remote Software Upgrade, and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

In addition to that, the driver also receives multiple driver assistance via the BMW Personal CoPilot with features the Driving Assistant, Reversing Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, and Frontal Collision Warning with braking function.

X1 sDrive18i

The BMW X1 sDrive18i unveiled is locally assembled here in Malaysia. BMW Malaysia is trying to add a new model to its portfolio of locally assembled vehicles. The X1 is BMW’s premium compact crossover, it features a powerful yet efficient in-line 3cyl 1.5-liter engine paired to a 7-Speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch, producing up to 140hp. On the exterior, it comes with LED headlights and fog lights and satin finish aluminum roof rails and exterior trim, with 17-inch rims.

BMW also boasts that it is the most spacious in its class, its boot capacity can be easily increased from 505 liters to 1,550 liters, when the rear seats are folded. Besides that, its infotainment system is BMW’s latest iDrive system with an 8.8-inch Control Display that can be controlled either by the iDrive controller, by touch or by voice. The driving assistance that comes equipped within the car comes in the form of BMW’s Personal CoPilot which includes Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning with braking intervention, High-beam Assistant, and many more.

Alpine White, Mediterranean Blue, Black Sapphire, and Mineral Gray are the choices that BMW Malaysia offers on the X1, it will be complemented with an interior upholstered in black Leather Dakota.
