Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest flagship lineup, headlined by the new Xiaomi 17 Ultra alongside the standard Xiaomi 17. While the base model targets the broader premium segment, the Ultra clearly positions itself as a no-compromise camera powerhouse.

The biggest talking point here is the rear triple-camera system, led by a massive 200MP telephoto sensor. Unlike conventional telephoto implementations, Xiaomi is using a large 1/1.4-inch sensor that enables true optical zoom between 75mm and 100mm without resorting to digital cropping. Beyond that, the camera can push all the way up to 400mm (around 17.2x) using in-sensor zoom, while still maintaining impressive detail throughout the zoom range.

Co-engineered with Leica, the telephoto module features an APO optical lens designed to minimize chromatic aberration while improving sharpness, contrast, and colour accuracy. Xiaomi claims this makes it the first smartphone to receive Leica APO certification. Supporting it is a 50MP main camera using the Light Fusion 1050L sensor with LOFIC technology, aimed at enhancing dynamic range, particularly in challenging lighting scenarios.

Completing the setup is a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 14mm focal length that also doubles as a macro shooter capable of focusing as close as 5cm. On the front, you’ll find a 50MP selfie camera. For video, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra supports recording at up to 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps, with HDR powered by the same LOFIC technology for improved highlight and shadow retention.

Beyond imaging, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 6.9-inch OLED display with a 2,608 x 1,200 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness reaching up to 3,500 nits. It covers the wide DCI-P3 colour gamut and supports up to 68 billion colors. Durability is handled by Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0, complemented by an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Other highlights include dual stereo speakers, a four-microphone array with AI-powered call noise reduction, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, the device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with Xiaomi’s 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop cooling system. The brand says the redesigned cooling separates vapour and liquid pathways to improve thermal efficiency during sustained workloads. Memory-wise, the Ultra comes with 16GB of RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.

Powering everything is a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, supporting 90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse wired charging. On the software side, it runs HyperOS 3 and promises up to five years of Android OS updates alongside six years of security patches.

Also introduced is the Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi, essentially the global counterpart to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. Visually, it differs with an all-black rear design instead of the two-tone finish seen in China, along with subtle cosmetic refinements. Hardware-wise, it remains largely identical to the standard Ultra.

What sets the Leitzphone apart is a programmable mechanical ring surrounding the camera module, allowing users to manually adjust focal length, exposure, and other shooting parameters. It also introduces Leica Essential mode, designed to recreate the look and feel of classic Leica cameras such as the Leica M9 and Leica M3, complete with MONOPAN 50 film-inspired aesthetics.

In Malaysia, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is available in White, Black, and Starlit Green. Pricing starts at RM5,499 for the 16GB+512GB variant and RM5,999 for the 16GB+1TB model. Meanwhile, the Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi is offered exclusively in Black with a 16GB+1TB configuration, priced at RM7,499.

Pre-orders run from 1 to 5 March 2026. Customers who place their orders during this period will receive a complimentary Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro and Xiaomi Sound Party, while stocks last. Orders can be made through Xiaomi Stores nationwide, mi.com, Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok Shop.

On top of that, Xiaomi is bundling additional value-added perks with purchases of both the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17. These include a three-month Google AI Pro trial with 2TB of cloud storage, three months of YouTube Premium, four months of Spotify Premium, and RM50 worth of Grab Gifts—adding even more value to an already feature-packed flagship lineup.
