Introduction
Earlier this year, vivo announced the APEX 2019, which is a concept phone without any ports and buttons. Well, vivo Malaysia recently invited us to a special session to try out the phone. This is the vivo APEX 2019 hands-on!
vivo APEX 2019 Specs
- 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor
- 12GB RAM
- 512GB non-expandable storage
- 12MP + 13MP dual-camera setup
- 4,100mAh battery
- Funtouch OS 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie
Hands-On
The APEX 2019 is a very unique and beautiful phone, it comes with the Super Unibody design with Curved-Surface Waterdrop Glass. The entire design carries out the minimalist concept, taking phone design to a whole new level.
The phone sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, which has a pretty high screen-to-body ratio. The phone doesn’t have a speaker grille nor the earpiece, you’ll need to rely on its Body SoundCasting technology for audio.
As this is a phone without any ports and buttons, vivo has gone for the Touch Sense technology, which replaces the physical buttons with capacitive touch and pressure-sensing.
Charging and data transfer wise, the phone uses MagPort. It is a magnetic power connector with both charging and data transfer functionalities. Just like Apple’s MagSafe, the magnets would just release if you accidentally pull the cable, this will avoid the port from getting damaged.
The phone has a 12MP + 13MP dual-camera setup on the back. After trying out the phone, we can confirm that one of the cameras is the ultra wide-angle camera like most flagships nowadays. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t have a selfie camera, bad news for selfie lovers.
Another incredible feature of the APEX 2019 is the Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning technology. With this technology, you can unlock the phone with your fingerprint by just pressing on any part of the screen.
Final Words
As mentioned earlier, the vivo APEX 2019 is just a concept phone. This phone won’t be selling in any part of the world, but you can expect to see a mass production variant with some amendments coming out later this year, just like what the company did with the original APEX and NEX.
Let’s not forget that the phone actually supports 5G connectivity. It also packs a Snapdragon 855 processor with 12GB RAM and 512GB non-expandable storage. Since it doesn’t have a hole, we guess that that eSIM is the only solution for the SIM card duty.
Once again, vivo has shown us that the company is capable of making a good-looking and innovative device. Will we be seeing a foldable smartphone from the company too? Time will tell!
