Sony Mobile Malaysia today launched the Xperia Z5 Series devices – Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Dual and Xperia Z5 Premium.
Announced at IFA 2015, the Z5 Compact is more on flagship specs in small size, while the Xperia Z5 is a regular flagship from the company. As for the Z5 Premium, it is the world’s first smartphone with 4K display.
Xperia Z5 Compact
The Xperia Z5 Compact is for those who prefer a compact smartphone with great specs. It is pocket-friendly and can be easily held with one hand.
The device has a 4.6″ HD TRILUMINOS display. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable storage.
Camera wise, it has a brand new 23 MP Exmor RS camera with hybrid auto-focus which has fast focusing speed at just 0.03 seconds. Its camera is capable of 4K video recording, and comes with SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode. The front-facing camera is a 5 MP unit.
Sony has redesigned the power button of the Xperia Z5 Series devices. The power button now doubling as a fingerprint sensor, which located at the side of the device. Additionally, the device is also IP65 and IP68 water and dust resistance like its predecessor.
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact will be available next month onwards at the retail price of RM 2,299. Malaysia will be getting the single SIM version with Graphite Black, White, Yellow and Coral color options available.
Xperia Z5 Dual
The Xperia Z5 Dual, is the regular flagship from Sony. It has a 5.2″ Full HD TRILUMINOS display with the pixel density of 428 ppi. The device is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3 GB of RAM. Its 32 GB internal storage is expandable via MicroSD card up to 200 GB.
Basically the Xperia Z5 specs are pretty similar to the Z5 Compact, which means you’ll get the same 23 MP rear and 5 MP front cameras, IP65/68 certification and side-mounted power button doubling as a fingerprint sensor. However, the battery capacity is slightly bigger at 2,900 mAh (vs 2,700 mAh). Sony claims that all the Xperia Z5 Series devices have up to 2 days battery life.
Like the Xperia Z5 Compact, the Xperia Z5 Dual will be available in Malaysia next month onwards. This dual SIM flagship smartphone is priced at RM 2,699 with Graphite Black, White, Gold and Green color options available.
Xperia Z5 Premium Dual
And finally, the Xperia Z5 Premium Dual. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to test out the device as there is no demo units available at the launch.
The Xperia Z5 Premium Dual is the world’s first smartphone to feature a 4K display. It has a 5.5″ 4K TRILUMINOS display with 806 ppi pixel density. However, the device shows most content in 1080p. You will only able to enjoy the 4K resolution in video and image content. That’s the way to conserve the 3,430 mAh battery in order to deliver up to 2 days battery life.
The rest of the specs are pretty similar to the Z5 Dual. As for the pricing and launching date, Sony Mobile Malaysia states that the price will be revealed next month with no information regarding to its launch date at the moment. The Xperia Z5 Premium Dual will come in Chrome, Black and Gold colors.
