Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold6 at its latest Unpacked event, which is the successor to last year’s Z Fold5. I was able to play around with the phone before the launch. Without further ado, here’s the first look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is lighter, taller, wider, and thinner than its predecessor. Weighing in at just 239g, the phone is just slightly heavier than the S24 Ultra (233g). It now has a slightly larger 6.3-inch outer screen (from 6.2-inch) and the edges around the phone are now less curvy compared to its predecessor.
The phone comes with an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance. It still features the same dual-rail hinge, enhanced armor aluminum, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a protective layer. The phone measures only 12.1mm thin when folded while unfolding the phone will reduce the thickness to 5.6mm. Just like its predecessor, the Z Fold6 can fold flat without leaving any gap.
Unfolding the phone will reveal a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Samsung claims that its screen now offers a brighter display of up to 2,600 nits. It still has a 4MP Under Display Camera, which is the same as the Z Fold4. One noticeable difference is the crease now feels flatter when I’m scrolling my finger around, which makes the overall experience more pleasant.
Powering the Galaxy Z Fold6 is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for Galaxy with 12GB RAM and three storage options — 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The phone now offers an upgraded gaming experience, anchored by its powerful chipset and 1.6x larger vapor chamber.
The rear cameras are still the same since Z Fold4 — 12MP ultra-wide + 50MP main with OIS and Dual Pixel AF + 10MP telephoto with OIS. The phone now has a thicker camera ring design, which looks a lot like the camera protector on my phone.
The Galaxy AI has also been enhanced on Z Fold6. Maximizing its unique dual-screen form factor, Interpreter comes with a new conversation mode that enables both parties to conveniently view translations on the main and cover screens for more natural interactions. It also offers one-way translation, so you can easily understand when listening during lectures or any other type of presentation. Live Translate, which translates phone calls directly on your device in real time, is also now being extended beyond Samsung’s own native calling app to a selection of popular third-party apps.
From capturing to editing to viewing, the AI-powered ProVisual Engine on the Galaxy Z Fold6 takes your creativity to the next level. The advanced editing experience with Photo Assist on the large screen helps to effortlessly create professional-grade content. Portrait Studio creates a variety of different portrait styles such as 3D cartoon or watercolor for more creative possibilities. And if you want to enjoy every second with a more detailed view, Instant Slow-mo allows you to instantly slow a video by generating additional frames while maintaining a smooth viewing experience. You also have the option of saving or directly sharing your videos with friends and family so they can enjoy them as well.
Available in Pink, Silver Shadow, and Navy colors, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is now available for pre-order starting today, 10 July 2024, with general availability starting 24 July 2024.
