At today’s Unpacked event, Samsung also announced the Galaxy Watch8 series and the new Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch8 series consists of two models: the vanilla Galaxy Watch8 and the return of Classic.
Galaxy Watch8
Available in 40mm and 44mm, the Galaxy Watch8 has a pretty sleek profile and adapts the cushion design from the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It sports a 1.34-inch (438 x 438) Super AMOLED Full Color Always On Display for the 40mm variant and a 1.47-inch (480 x 480) for the 47mm variant. Both screens have a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and are protected by Sapphire Crystal Glass.
Powering the watch is a 3nm Exynos W1000 processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The 40mm variant packs a 325mAh battery, and the 44mm has a 435mAh battery. The Galaxy Watch8 features a bunch of sensors, including Samsung BioActive Sensor (Optical Bio-signal Sensor + Electrical Heart Signal + Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis), Temperature Sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, and Light Sensor.
The Galaxy Watch8 runs on One UI 8 Watch on top of Wear OS Powered by Samsung (Wear OS 6), available in Graphite and Silver colors.
Galaxy Watch8 Classic
The Classic made its return in the Galaxy Watch8 lineup! Available in only 46mm size, the Galaxy Watch8 Classic sports a 1.34-inch (438 x 438) Super AMOLED Full Color Always On Display with 3,000 nits of peak brightness, which is the same size as the 40mm Watch8. The reason behind the big size is because of the rotating bezel, which is a handy feature and also brings timeless sophistication to the wrist, paired with the cushion design.
The watch is also powered by a 3nm Exynos W1000 processor with 2GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. It packs a 445mAh battery and also features all sorts of sensors from the vanilla Watch8, with an additional 3D Hall sensor.
The Galaxy Watch8 Classic also runs on One UI 8 Watch on top of Wear OS Powered by Samsung (Wear OS 6), available in Black and White colors.
Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025)
The 2025 edition Galaxy Watch Ultra is similar to the 2024 model, only that it now has double the storage from 32GB to 64GB. It is also available in Titanium Blue, in addition to the existing Titanium Gray, Titanium Silver, and Titanium White. The rest is the same as the previous year’s model.
Health Features & One UI 8 Watch
The Galaxy Watch8 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) represent a significant leap forward in holistic health monitoring and AI-powered wellness support, transforming the smartwatch into a comprehensive health companion. The latest iteration goes beyond basic fitness tracking to offer deep insights into sleep quality, stress management, and overall vitality through innovative features powered by advanced sensors and AI analytics.
At the core of its health capabilities, the Watch8 introduces groundbreaking sleep tracking technology that analyzes circadian rhythms to provide personalized bedtime recommendations. The new Vascular Load metric offers unprecedented visibility into cardiovascular stress during sleep, while the debut Antioxidant Index feature delivers immediate feedback on carotenoid levels – a first for wearable devices. These metrics combine to give users a 360-degree view of their recovery and long-term wellness.
For fitness enthusiasts, the Watch8 elevates training with intelligent coaching tools. The Running Coach feature creates fully customized workout plans based on individual fitness levels, complete with real-time feedback. The enhanced Together feature adds a social dimension by enabling friendly running competitions, turning exercise into an engaging group activity. Stress management receives equal attention through proactive High Stress Alerts and guided breathing exercises via the Mindfulness Tracker, helping users maintain mental balance throughout their day.
The integration of Google’s Gemini AI assistant through Wear OS 6 revolutionizes how users interact with their smartwatches. Natural language processing allows for complex, multi-step commands like coordinating meetups or initiating customized workouts through simple voice prompts. The redesigned One UI 8 Watch interface optimizes information display with Multi-Info Tiles that consolidate health data, calendar events, and weather updates for at-a-glance convenience.
